Default Cossie clutch ?

I fitted a 2wd flaywheel and alcon clutch into my escort cos .
couldent get it into gear it wouldent disengage properly. i tried starting the car in gear and it treid to drive off. i removed the clutch and everything looks fine. it was a s/h clutch that came on the engine. i have bin tolled that a 2wd clutch is the same as a 4wd just with a different realese bearing and the 2wd flywheel is a straight swap?
Any one got any ideas

Assuming you connected the clutch cable then did the ratchet adjust it properly?

Also you say it was a s/h clutch that came on the engine? Had it been outside or anywhere damp for a while as they can seize up!
