K, I'm currently living in Vancouver, Canada..... I was going to move back to England this summer, Bracknell specifically, I do kinda miss it, but from what I have been reading lately it's put me off a little, but how much that the papers print can you believe??
Is the recession starting to wind down and work and jobs picking up?? what is the crime level really like?? is there nothing but illegal immigrants everywhere?? is everyone a victim of crime, with race riots about to explode and the whole country reduces to chaos etc......
I read that cost of living in rising to unaffordable rates, petrol is through the roof, coucil tax keeps going up, but wages are not, if your lucky enough to still have a job......
Like I said I was planning to return this summer, but starting to have second thoughts now, and everyone I know are saying that it would be great to have me back, but why the fuck would I come back to England when I am where I am.... Plus I have just met a great girl, possibly the best in the world, so would like to see how that turns out...
So any ideas or advise would be great everyone....
thanks in advance

This country is great mate if your fuckin polish, kosovan, somalian or any other nationality but english!! Ignore dan from fast ford he obviously lives on another planet to everyone else..prick!
Stay away from the large towns and cities full of foreigners and pollution and you'll be fine.
Petrol is about 1.20 a litre at the moment (5.50 a gallon ish)
There are definately less jobs about than there have been in the past, but its certainly not a case of the country is on its knees yet IMHO
Somewhere like Bracknell where you can get to bigger places reading/london so easily im sure you will find work if you look for it in most industries.

100 Kosovan immigrants all on the minimum wage doing minimum wage jobs will have a lower average wage than 10 english middle managers
But hey, dont rely on bullshit statistics that dont give a true picture
If you've ever worked in HR for a large company who employ lots of low wage/temporary staff you'd understand what levels the immigrants stoop to to take jobs illiegally
A good friend of mine works for a national comapny and they employ 25 staff just to check documents/verify passports/eligibility to work etc, and they spend a great deal of their time collaborating with police/immigration to identify and detain illiegal immigrants, most of whom dissapear into thin air when investigated
There are lots of problems......employers employing illiegally, workers willing to work illiegally. Lazy brits etc etc
But pretending immigration isnt a problem is mental
of course it is

He said things were BETTER for those foreign nationalities than for the english nationals, I was just pointing out that is rubbish, while immigration has hit some low paid english jobs, its certainly not caused problems for all across the board.
Immigration is a problem to some people a benefit to others, so trying to pretends its entirely one or entirely the other are both equally stupid, and its not me doing either of those things
You are very naive if you can only see the side of it the SUN tell you about
I have professional ecomonics qualifications and have published articles in 'The Economist' over the last ten years, and I also do market analysis for a large property company every 6 months as a side to my day job
So think what you like, i'll think what I like, and the proof of the pudding will be in the eating
Dont belittle my by associating me with the Sun because I have an opinion that differs to your naive opininon

Wow. I didnt realise the economist had dropped their standads so far.
Got a link to an article you have written then? It would be interesting to read it and see if its as shallowly researched as your opinion in this thread appears to be
It's so good here, that more imigrants are LEAVING than at any other time, they find the truth when they get here for work, some I know thought they were going to be on Ł100 a day daffodil picking, it can't be that great where some are returning to, but what does that say about the uk if they prefer it less ?
I think if you live rurally then it's not so bad, but crime is out of hand imo, as is gov polictics.
tabetha

If I was you I would stay in BC. I live down the road in Seattle but Im back in the UK at the moment for a family funeral and really dont like being back in the UK. For me it comes down to having a better life style back in the US sure I miss my close friends but at the end of the day but I still chat with them most days on messenger. I also find that there are too many wannbe thugs and gangster in the UK now, its just a joke.
Im currently staying in Horsham West Sussex and to be honest Im afraid to walk home from the local pubs at night these days because of the idiots out there. Yet In Seattle Ill walk home via some risky neighbor hoods after a night out on the town and never feel like Im in any sort of danger.
Ive always said that if I ever had to leave the US I would head over the border to BC and not back to the UK.

And yet despite all that you cant see ANY benefit this country has EVER had from immigration?

I said going forward we have a problem with it now, as an overall effect
I have no problem with an immigrant coming over here, with the skills to work and some cash to get set up and applying for a job like any other person. The same as you or I would do if we were to emmigrate to Australia for example.
What happens though is they come over (legally), we then have to house them, support them and educate them to a level of basic written and spoken English and basic numeracy before they can work, then when they cant get a job we pay them benefits. When they do work its usually at the minumum rate so they still get benefits.
All the while we're having to do the same for English Nationals who sidestepped the education system and cant/dont work
It costs a hell of a lot, in fact my company is funded to the tune of Ł35million by the government to do exactly that every year.......and we are small-fry in our industry.
Thats not mentioning immigrants who dont go through the proper channels of which there are a lot.....
The cost of them to our economy is massive, you cant keep increasing the number of people who are taking cash out of the pot then eventually the cash will run out
The situation also has effects on crime, the housing market, local labour markets and many other facets of the UK economy.
The UK has had net migration in recent years, but unfortunately it's high level earners and skilled workers who are leaving and unskilled immigrants who are coming in.
I believe the same as you that we need to be choosey about who we let in, but sadly its not possible for us to do so to the extent I would like, as it would breach agreements we have as part of being in the EU, if we wish to control our borders ourselves, we need to leave the EU first.
Ironically part of the reason we joined the EU I believe was to lessen immigration by handing over control of our borders to europe as it meant we no longer had to honour agreements with african and indian nations that were part of the commonwealth, but at the time we joined the EU, we didnt realise the longer term effects of doing so as the EU itself continued to expand.
If you're happy in Vancouver bloody well stop there. I would!
In my humble opinion, living in a smallish Northern town, once being a member of the Beano fan club and having never had any of my ramblings published anywhere, I'd say it's not as bad as people make out. All we need is some sort of barrier to keep the Welsh out!!!!!

STAY IN BC DO NOT COME BACK!! I spent a year in Oz and 2 years in NZ, the only reason i came back was i broke my back snowboarding, my passport expired and my visa expired all at the same time so i thought fuck it and came home. WORST DECISION EVER. Ive spent time in the Vancouver area snowboarding in Whistler, Big White and the local City mountains as well as down around Seattle. If you like an outdoor lifestyle you cant beat it anywhere, proper cold snowy winters and hot summers. If you like watching telly 24/7 then sure, come home because you wont be able to afford to go out. Unless you are an MP of course then you will be able to wangle the booze on your expenses.

Thanks all, Lmao at chip and its chech mate some serious debate going on there... but yeah, maybe the best option will be for me to see for myself?? Im looking into coming over for Ford Fair anway, so maybe ill stay for a month or so and get out there and really see first hand.... Its gonna be a shame if it is gonna go to the dogs with no chance of return, maybe with a different GOV, things will pick up, and ill reassess the situation in a few years..
K well , Thanks again ladies and gents
And to the OP - I think a lot of it depends on where in the UK you want to come back to, and what trade you're in. Some parts of the country are fucked, some aren't, some trades are fucked some aren't.
The only thing that is actually fucked across the whole country is the roads! They're considerably worse than when you left!
I don't know of any Welsh people living outside of Wales (apart from the Welsh bloke on here who lives in the South of France, can't remember his name), and I live just down the road from Wales really.
