hi everyone. me and my friend stripped his zetec in record time for a rebuild not thinking to look for any timimng marks
but there is'nt any, been told you need special tools to time it up. bottom end easy to time but how do we time the cams. is there a site that shows you?

cam cover off a place a 5mm thick piece of alloy in the slots and fits flush on top of the head , if the alloy does not sit on the edge of the head then rotate the cams as they have a offset slot.

cos when you hold the cam's in the timed position they slip round under spring pressure
, but like coley say's you'll see the slot's in the cam's oposite sides of the pulley's slide something of the right thikness into the slots so it rests on the cam cover mating surface of the head, it'll be obvious when by the engine
edit: they did put timing marks on it they also made it fool proof with a cam locking bar

There are no timing marks, as this isn't an accurate way to time an engine. You need a kit as show above, which locks the cams and crank in position, and then you can tighten the pulleys up.

Depends which zetec you have got?
Both require a 5mm thick timing bar put accross the cams.
The silver top DOES have timing marks on the crank pulley which line up with the angled mark on the sump.
The black top doesn't have these marks but does have the threaded hole for the crank locking pin.
