hi chaps, few issues today with my 2wd cos
at first rad fan would come on then number 11 fuse (30a) would pop
checked wiring earths & relay replaced fuse in number 11 however number 18 fuse (30a) was still ok.
tried just pushing in relay fans come on
wired fans direct to battery came on & off no probs
checked the 2 relays and fuses under glove box all ok dont think they anything to do with rad fans
ive also got no heater fan in interior ! are these 2 circuits linked somehow thats perhaps why rad fans fuses popping ?
im stuck on what else to try
ive searched thru threads on this issue seems most of you have bypassed ford wiring and fuse box and put manual switch in
i would still like to know the cause of my problem so any more help would be appreciated

Unless you want a fire,(well at least it'll keep you warm!!) dispense with the ford relay and fuse for the cooling fans and rewire, the ford stuff was inadequate when new, let alone now it is so old, fuses pop due to too high a load going through them, so either the fans are drawing too much current(maybe ones seizing ?), or there may be a short on the live to fans, either way you are v lucky to haver a car left that has not been barbequed!!.
There is no link between cooling fan circuit and the blower fan for the heater, so need to look elsewhere, I'd start by checking the earth on the fan motor, then put a direct live to the motor to make sure it still works, if the above is ok look for the live at the speed switch, chances are it isn't there, so check fuses etc again.
The relays by the glovebox are nothing to do with the heater fan, one is ecu feed, one is fuel pump, one is HFS, and can't remember other one, abs possibly, if there is a purple relay holder it is for air con.

thankyou for answering my thread, sounds like i have been lucky not to have had a fire then !
i will definitely be re-wiring it all tomorrow and putting in a manual switch.
i will also investigate the wiring on the heating motor & fan.

There's nothing wrong with a switch if it is for OVERIDING the relay, but certainly not as the only thing that switches the fans on, as some do it that way, only takes one forgetfull moment to cost big time, so keep the std temp switch in rad to trip relay, to turn on, switch it positively, ie fan is permanently earthed the live switches, that way any overide switch(live supply) can easily be taken from a ignition switched live supply to switch then relay so you can't accidentally leave them on overide when parking up.
