Category B vehicles may be coupled with a trailer up to 750kgs MAM (allowing a combined weight up to 4.25 tonnes MAM) or, a trailer over 750kgs MAM provided the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle, and the combination does not exceed 3.5 tonnes MAM.

not sure about your details from then, best way is to look on your license or the bit of paper that came with it and itll tell you what your eligable for

i doubt youll be able to pull it, even if it doesnt mention the type of trailer the weight limit will come into it

when i pass i cant pull a tralier over 750kgs (rules out a towing a car obviosly) and a combined wieght of 3.5tonnes for the car and trailer

so many people read this wrong. You can tow over 750kg providing the above criteria is met.

mam is the maximum absolute mass.... so basically. as much ad the car is legally allowed to weigh before its classed as overweight

so, theoretically I will throw some figures in for you...

Say you have :-

A car weighing 1500kg unloaded that has a mam of 2000 kg

Then you can tow a trailer with a mam of 1500kg as your total will be 3.5 tonnes MAM and you MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the tow car.

well like said when i pass i won't be able to tow ANY trailer over 750kg without doing a trailer test first regardless of whats legally allowed to be towed in weights

i think you would need to do a trailer test then think about weights of what you will be pulling

A) a frames are illegal for anything other than revovery to a safe place unless its a proper conversion operation the towed vehicles brakes.

B) Dollys are also illegal as above as they leave the rear axle of the towed car unbraked.

C) as stated you CAN tow a trailer as covered on here many times, it just has to fulfil the reululations.

For instance I can tow my 900kg nova on a trailer with a net capacity of one tonne (not overloaded) the MAM of the trailer is 1300kg (net capacity + actual mass, this is on a plate on the trailer.) I can tow that behind a vectra which weighs 1340kg (MAM of trailer less than unladen weight of towing vehicle) because the gross weight or MAM of the vectra is 1900kg and 1900+1300 is less than 3500.

How the times have changed eh!!
I can remember towing a 2 axle car trailer with a rangey on board with my metro!!
Towing might be exaggerating a bit, more like busting a gut to get it even moving, my poor little 1.0 metro, glad it wasn't far and no bizzies around, didn't like stopping, didn't go over 30(that was flat out!!).
