hi all ive a problem geting 5th gear it just dont go in and when ive selected it and left out the clutch i just get a grinding noise but then somtimes it works any ideas do i need to change the box its a 1998 1.4 will any escort box fit please helppppp

Sounds like something is bent or broke cheepest option will be to put a new box in

Sounds fucked mate. Your best best is to get down the breakers and get hold of a 2nd hand box. It's not a hard job to swap them, even a garage wouldn't charge you that much labour. Grinding + Gearboxes is usually very bad....

would i just leave the clutch on my engine and the diesel box will fit on and then would i use my original driveshaft my car is a 1.4 cvh 1998 are you saying that all the escort boxes fit each other

Yes. All the boxes will fit. The diesel being stronger is a bit of a myth I think. And if it's a 1400, do you really need an uprated box?

why not? It's the same bellhousing stud pattern, the input shafts are the same, the drive shafts are the same, the thing obviously fits into the bay as it come on the diesel escort. the ratios are different, and the myth is the diesel boxes are stronger.
