i'm building a new engine for my 2wd saff
but now i want to fit a new oil pump
but they are not more for sale with ford
so i want to fit an genuine cosworth pump
i know there are issues with the 4x4 pumps
but are the 2wd genuine cosworth pumps reliable?

 

I'm not sure if the problems were only 4wd ones ?.
No matter but a new oil pump for a pinto, then fit your cover, it fits traight on to the pinto pump, if there is any scoring on the cover inside then it would be wise to get a light skim on it to flatten it in a machine shop.

Used a standard Sierra pump in mine with an uprated pressure spring and re-used the cover from my old Cossie pump

Piston oil squirters were blocked in mine so check these if you haven't

 

when i fit the cover from an cosworth (with spraybar outlet) is the pressure spring in the cover or in the pump?
is it a good thing to put the pressure spring from my old pump in the pinto one?

 

The pressure spring is under a stainless steel round bit, that is taked in to the body of the pump, the std pressure would be fine, but easy to change to cossie spring if you want to get the cossie pressure rates.
