Just installed Avast recently. Do a google search. This killed everything, has protected me from loads of attacks and is free.

Try SDFix - that got rid of one for me that neither avg or avast managed to find. It's a spyware/trojan remover tool, not av, so don't uninstall avg/avast. Takes about half an hour to run and must be done in safe mode.

I dont know why people persist in using that AVG crap Its like buying a Porsche and putting a laserline alarm from Argos on it for security

I had to fix my mates laptop on Saturday night due to him getting a virus from one of the ads on The Pirate Bay and yup he was using AVG because he too tight to shell out £15 for decent internet security

Only problem is once a virus gets in, it can spread everywhere, and no virus program will remove 100% of it. In my experience, once you have been infected, the only sure fire way to get rid 100% is a format and re-installation of windows. Only takes about an hour, considerably less time than faffing about trying to remove the virus!

Not necessarily, you could also spend hours backing up all your important data

True, hence I said in my experience, as any files I have that are worth keeping are stored on an external drive anyway, so if the computer goes tits up then its not the end of the world!

Is it better to run all these scans/programs with Windows in safe mode? or does it not make any difference to their effectiveness?

Only ones that benefit from Safe Mode are specific spyware removal applications, as some spy/malware run hidden process that re-activate the program/backdoor if removed.

download and run both of them
Used both of these programs, had to put the files on a dongle then load them on the pc.

Took a while as I run both at the same time, the Malware found 8 problems and fixed it, then done the other link this found 2 other problems.

All sorted now. Avg and Spybot never seen anything bt these 2 programs did.

PC also runs faster, done the laptop aswell and it's running alot quicker.

Thanks Again, if anyone has a problem i'll direct to this thread
