even with the 1 year no claims i would expect the insurance costs to be crazy for anything sporty

when my neighbour's lad was chatting to me about what it costs him to insure a 1.3 fiesta i felt so glad i am a old git with 14 years ncb

but the amount of cash you have buys all manner of cars best to decide what sot of car you want so we can narrow down the search

I'd go for a Golf GTI or even a GT TDI 150 mk4...

Quick and tuneable with a remap!

personally i'd stay away from hot hatches, insurance would kill you on them,

something like an octavia vrs, volvo t5, etc, turbo'd family saloons tend to be cheaper (Ł/bhp) on the insurance and have a fair bit of potential tuning wise.

Those Golfs boooooooooooooooring! Even with that kind of power, they have such a joyless chassis! A 130bhp 2.0 Focus would be a LOT more entertaining that that with 200bhp.....

Looooooads of cars to choose from that are more entertaining that that!

Would get a decent E46 330i saloon for that, or an ST220

What's good about them?

They're well screwed together and go well in a straight line.

However, they're about as interesting and fun as a stick of celery.

an ST220 is far more entertaining to drive. So would be a Focus with much less power, a Clio 172/182, blah blah blah.

Diesel Golfs are old gits cars...

1 yrs NCB is barely going to make a dent in your premiums mate. And I'd imagine you'd struggle to get just about any of the car's mentioned here for under 2K per year, especially as you're paying it monthy.
