fao plumbers again lol - noisy pipes..?
ok boys, lately, whenever we turn on the cold tap, the pipes make a horrific noise, and its getting worse...
what the hell is it? almost like a vibrating noise, but realy high pitched squeel.
what can i do to sort it? its mainly on the kitchen tap, which now drips a lot too
cheers

cheers guys, will do, although the water pressure is a bit poor to start with. if there is air in the system, how do you get it out?
its been doing it for ages, but got a lot a worse lately

From: Essex or Uxbridge normally...
Its most likely the float valve in the cold water storage tank, mate. Theres turbulance in the valve when its slightly open.
Replace the valve or try to dismantle it and clean it.

cheers simon, will give it a look as soon as i get some free time. it only does it with the kitchen tap tho, not the bath, bathroom sink, bog, washing machine etc
i did stick my head under the kitchen sink earlier and move the pipe slightly, that seemed to quieten it a bit, but it was making the noise as loudly as it has been

change ya stop tap ,the guts will be nackerd ,change them all time for this problem
the noise is not air but the vibration of the inside stop tap when the water passes throw it seen it hundred times ,an would put money on it been that not the ballvalve in header tank

will not be air in the system unless you have tank fed cold water supply, chances are if its your kitchen sink tap then this will be your drinking point which won't be tank fed and will be mains fed (straight out of the ground) mains fed water is too high a pressure to get air in the pipework.
as said water pressure could be too high if its screeching when you open the tap, either turn the stop tap down to lower the pressure or close up the isolating valve under the sink if you have one fitted, this is better than turning the stoptap down, as doing that could/would affect the pressure elsewhere in the house...
highly unlikely to be the ballvale in the tank as the noise would also happen when the tank is filling after being emptied.
worth checking if the pipe work is secure, fixed to the wall, as sometimes you can water hammer, which is the pipe vibrating when the tap is turn off.

Deffo sounds like your mains tap is suffering from a little valve bounce m8, when you open the cold tap the wear in the mains tap allows the rush of water to vibrate the the valve causing the pipes to vibrate.
