ST170 - slow unless you want to drive it all day at 6000+rpm.
My money would be with a 182 clio, can be picked up cheap as chips these days! Quite flimsy build though, depends if you can put up with it.!

You can easily make a Golf out handle and perform as well or better than the Clio, but you can't stop the Clio being a girly french flimsy bit of crap, oh, and did I mention its bloody french !!!

tt turbo is Awd. The TT is far too gay to be RWD.

No way will any golf handle as well as a 172/182 cup
even if it was possible it would cost a hell of a lot
Clio is the best choice for the OP

Agreed.
Anyone who thinks chucking a set of coilovers on a lard arsed Golf will even put it in the same league as the Clio really doesn't have a clue.

i dont see why everyone hypes up these clio 172s astrack cars. they are good cars and they are quick but not when you consider what else is in the budget.
i drove one and thought it felt like ' a quick reno clio' nothing more nothing less. :/ imo

1999 -2001 Polo GTi ? cheap, light, good solid build quality, quite nippy, best looking polo and could drop the 1.8t engine in with a remap for some bigger power!

A civic vti is probably the cheapest bang for buck 160bhp+ car mentioned so far, and it wont break after giving it some beans
