Default Anyone recommend good art/photo software?

Looking to replace our current Adobe Photoshop elements, and, don't have a clue what to replace it with.

Don't need anything too pro, just something nice and easy to tart up digital pics, crop them etc etc

We used to have Paint Shop Pro which was really easy to use, the adobe is a bit of a hag

Any help greatly appreciated

Paint Shop Pro's a quality program - or it was before JASC lost it. PSP7 was the best version - anything after that is pretty pants IMO.

Serif Photoplus is pretty capable, and free.

The GIMP is free, but personally I found using it a bit of a chore, but it's allegedly as capable as Photoshop.

Why not Use Photoshop CS2/3/4?

easily downlable but may be a bit more coplicated than what you're used to.

Why you getting rid of Elements?

Lightroom 2 is perfect for what you're after, general touching up cropping.

Any program, regardless of platform, will crash if it's not been programmed properly. A car that handles and runs perfectly can still be crashed by a flid of a driver trying to defy the laws of physics.

I've worked exclusively on Macs for the last 14 years. In the last 5 years I have not lost a single piece of work due to crashing. Sure it crashes occasionally, but the Mac has the decency to save where I'm at before closing the programme.

As for Mac Viruses. Yes, I think there was one, once.

And never had a virus?

I've never run any sort of firewall, nor run any virus software.

Sure PCs do stuff well and are cheap, but let's be honest, they are shit

I'm with danneth, he speaks the truth.

You can't say that PCs are shit when nowadays Macs are no different to any other computer you see on the shelf bar the funny operating sytstem and funky cases.

La la la not listening la la la not listening.

I'm a fully paid up member of the Mac Blinkers Wearing Club. Part of the rules of the club is that I have to scoff at anything PC based, regardless of whether they're actually better than Macs or not.

Without joining hte mac vs pc battle...

If you have a mac, and want a RAW editor, either Aperture 3 or Lightroom 2.

for PC, Lightroom 2 hands down. Please note this is for a RAW editor.

For general photo stuff, a newish to top version of photoshop will do you fine, but it takes a while to learn things, but there are a great number of tutorials out there.
