yeah the rule of thumb is around 30 is lost through the drive so if yours is 191 then approx say its 160 ish. cant wait to get mine re-mapped and rollered a week on saturday and see what power i get. Should be over 250 all being well!!!

Does that rule of thumb work for all engine and drive, so would a 600bhp cossie lump be 570bhp at the wheels?
How about monsters like vayrons?

no i was talking in regards to front wheel escort turbos, sorry i wasn't clear, i worked this rough estimate out from seeing mine on rollers a few times. fwd escort turbos seem to lose about 30 hp through the drive.

Really you should use wheel bhp, but every one will just use crank.... i think the rst is actually 940KG but could be wrong.

Just take your power and divide it by 0.94,

trans losses are normally given as a percentage so they are correct throughout. My car has 155 brake @ the wheels and 186 @ the crank.

Trans losses are 155/186 X 100 giving 83% so trans losses are roughly 17% things like wheels and tyre pressure can influence this quite a bit too. But as Herbo said, using the above percentage gives a loss of 31.62 bhp so pretty damn close.

Crazycage is right mate, its all about brake per ton and powers given at the wheels, crank powers can be so easily fudged.

oks so I think I've got this right, my fly power is 191.8, -17% = 159.2 at the wheels.
then 159.2 divided by 0.94 = 169.4 bhp per ton.

If its around a 30bhp loss through trans then that makes mine about 180 at the wheels, wouldnt know how much mine weighs though

general estimate is a 15% power loss through transmission.
so 100bhp at the fly would be about 85bhp at the wheels.
200bhp at the flywheel would be about 170bhp at the wheels
so on an so forth.
this is for a fwd vehicle, rwd is a bit more and 4wd is more loss again.

Mine isnt a combi van though, its a 2 door estate with panels fitted instead of glass, from looking in the manual though it says that a 1.6 3 door estate comes in at 965kg
