Default help choosing brakes please

i currently have 4wd cossie calipers with 2wd discs on my s1..they are not much better than what i had previously..im wanting something with a bit more bite..heres the crap bit. i havent got a big enough budget for new calipers but i do have the choice of hundreds of cars from my local salvage..loads of makes and models..what would you advise? they need to fit under standard wheels aswell. i have already drilled out the hubs to accept the bigger bolts for mounting the calipers i have on now, so something with the same size (m12 i think) would be ideal..i can get different hubs if need be..what would you choose if you were in my position? thanks people

What did you have on previously?? I run the same setup as you, i do alot of trackdays and never really felt that the car is massively underbraked, i use ferodo ds2500 pads though which really make the difference imo. With the braking setup on an rst they never tend to be 'bitey' like on modern cars due to the servo setup/master cylinder but should work well when you stand on them! Due to the nature of good quality high temperature pads they also aren't great till they're warmed up a bit. If you have already used good pads etc then i've heard the st170 braking setup works well on rst's and shouldn't be mega bucks to get hold of

had standard s1 brakes on previously..i can honestly say they dont feel any better.. everything is new ie hoses, m/c and recon calipers..im not sure what pads ive got in as i bought them donkeys ago but they arent performance pads..whatever i choose will be free anyway apart from buying new discs and pads..are st170 calipers easy to fit? thanks

iv got focus st170 brakes all round easy to fit just need to drill out your front hubs for bigger bolts and grind a bit off the caliper for your hose to sit far anuff down best set up for a cheap converson

As above i really would fit a decent set of pads mate before you ditch them as to be honest, compared to the previous standard s2 brakes with grooved discs/good pads my cossie calipers with the ds2500 pads are leagues ahead, really big difference, especially braking from high speed.

Iv recently upgraded to cossie brake on the combi and yeah they made a massive difference so as dave says try some new decent pads first

Next days (when disks arrived) i will put mondeo mk3 calipers, focus st170 disks and mintex pads. Need some spacers and M12 bolts(ebay for 12-13 GBP..). Very cheap, around 250 GBP including postage in Greece!
