Default idle drop

My S2 idles fine all the time apart from when I just driven it hard then stop quickly so that it goes back to idle again (say at a set of traffic lights) as it drops down to idle it goes lower to about 200 rpm then jumps back to 1000 straight away and stays normal, its never stalled but it always worries me that it will fall too low and cut out.

Any ideas??

Thanks

Got a bailey one, would it do that then? It will sit and idle all day long but when it drops from being reved it does it? Thought that if it the d/v then it would be a lumpy idle all time?

it would prob do both TBH.
If you got a bailey one it should be fine.. there is lots of things that could be wrong with yours.. dizzy timing cam timing air leaks incorectly adjusted idle valve. throttle position sensor...
prob worth checking the TPS first to be honest... open the bonnet without the engine running.. pull the accelerator cable/bracker thing towards you.. you should hear a quiet 'click' almost as soon as you pull it. if you dont the TPS is nackered and is likely to be your problem. (TSP is the black thing on the right of the inlet manifold)

I check it out - one thing though, my accelerator clip snapped when I put my foot down hard I got to get a new one yet and is held in place with rubber tubing and a clamp. Will that affect it??

Also do they do metal clips? I know they do the main part in crome etc but I need the clip which goes inside and plastic seems a bit weak to me??

cheers for help

The revs will drop down as you brake hard. It has something to do with the brake reservoir using air which the engine provides to move the diaphragm in the master cylinder...or something similar.. . That's why as soon as you have stopped, the revs rise again as it doesn't need the air as much to actuate the brakes. Sure someone else will define it better for ya, but as far as I know, it's supposed to work like this. Don't worry.
