Hi everyone, I have put this thread on here to ask if you could all help with this matter.
A good friend of mine has recently died from cervical cancer aged at just 20 years old, she was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer just after she gave birth but this was far too late as 3 weeks later she died.
I am putting up this link and ask that anyone who reads this would click on the link and sign the petition to lower the age of smear testing in females from 25 to 20.
http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/smear20/
Please could everyone sign this as this was the last wish that she and her family discussed before she passed away.
Thanks for looking
Shaun

Pardon my ignorance, but why can't smear testing be done even younger?
Why are there age limits on everything?
Cancer doesn't just go, oooo look I'm 20 now, I'll start being a cunt.

Done. Excellent cause.
Please everybody sign. A very good friend of mine is going in to hospital tomorrow to start a course of chemotherapy so the more that we can do to prevent/treat/cure cancer can only be a good thing.

As far as I am aware the results have a tendency to show abnormalities and require repeat testing in younger women. Girls are tested from age 20 in Scotland, but even at that are told that they may have to repeat the test and not to worry about the initial result as its commonplace for them to indicate abnormalities. Apparently going any younger would mean the test wouldnt be conclusive enough to be useful.

Tragic news
I'm sure when I was younger they wanted girls to have one by the time they were 21 or 3 years after becoming sexually active, I don't think their was a lower age limit but agree women should be tested as early as possible
Just as a p.s. you can have a smear test and pay for it to be done (£60 IIRC) through your normal well woman clinic/family planning or Doctors surgery, not sure if age comes into it then

Thanks for everyone who has signed the petition so far and for all of the kind words. I do agree that the age should be lower than 20 too but if this petition helps to lower the age and detect cancer at a far earlier age then it is a good thing in my eyes.
Thanks once again everyone, I know Claires family will really appreciate it and I definitely do.

My girlfriends mum died last march after a long battle with cervical cancer, took numerous visits to specialists and doctors for them to diagnose it correctly.......by which time it seems it was too late!
All cancer are horrible diseases, anything that can be done to help eradicate/prevent/treat it should be promoted.
I'd rather my tax money went on 60quid a go smear tests and stuff than gastric bands for obese folk!

Hi Hayley, I am not sure if you can actualy request it but I believe that if like anyone who reads this is concerned by it then you should definitely contact your G.P.
The more people out there who know about this and are bothered by it then the more likely it is for the NHS to take note.
All that I can say is ask and see what they say.
Thanks for signing the petition.
