is there a clip that holds it in place? my car doesnt have one fitted at the minute, not that it matters in this weather.

i had the housing off yesturday and all i have is a 82degree stat given with the car and a rubber seal inside the housing

 

yes there is ment to be a circlip which holds the stat in the housing

 

Its more important in the cold weather imo, the engine will struggle to get upto correct running temp, increased fuel consumption, poss engine wear, get it fitted,

 

Yes as said there should be a clip, they come with new thermostats (or at least mine did).
