Default Mongoose 4x4 cossie exhaust - Removing middle box

Put a 4x4 mongoose 4" system on my car last nite, replacing the 3" mongoose system that was on there before and it sounds hardly n e different.

I find it really quiet (compard to the rs turbo). How do they sound with the middle box removed? I know u lose torque by doing this but...

didnt know you could get a 4" system for a cossie off the shelf

you sure its not the same just a 4" tailpipe

what was wrong with the 3" unless your pushing over 500bhp

sorry, I did mean the tailpipes, both were 3" bore systems.

The only other difference between the two were the middle boxes. The 3" one has like a flanged section where as the 4" one has a proper silencer on it.

if they are both mongooes you should just be able to swap the backboxes

they are loud with the middle box removed

depends on your spec i have a mongooes with 3.5" tail and a centre box and mine is a nice sound

you wont lose torque either, its a turbo car, best results are from NO exhaust after the turbo, or in a normal world (ie not Indy car) just zero backpressure.

Loud is fine, its how I want it and i dont use the car everyday so shouldnt get annoying.

my m8 had it done on his escort cossie (i think has a mongoose) and it sounds the tits, another m8 has has it done on his 2wd saph with a scorpion system and it sounds very echo'y on idle (which Im not 100% keen on) but sounds wicked on boost. Havent heard a 4x4 mongoose on a saph yet but I've just booked it into pipecraft to have done in a couple of weeks so will have to see!

Whats the best way of doing this is it just a cut out and weld in the new pipe job or is it best to use clamps.
Just wondering as it sounds like a plan for my 2WD.

They're gonna weld in a replacement pipe on mine but Im sure they could make it up so that it can be clamped on instead - could then put the middle box back in you changed u're mind.

But was done local to me so no use to you

I take it without a centre box, the car will be far too loud to pass noise regs at a track day?

I dont think mine would be a problem as its standard and generally isnt that noisy - even at full boost.

My m8s 2wd scorpion box however I reckon would be too loud.

my advise is not to remove it, its too loud in my opinion, it will sound good for a few days but you'll soon get bored of the noise it makes

Yes, infact it's loud enough with the middle box, I was just thinking of removing it as it took fair a bit of punishment from a pothole. I'll probably stick with it to retain some sort of refinement in cabin but if anyone have any sound samples of Cossies running single silencer exhausts I'd like to hear them just for curiosity.

Middle box removal is ok with the Mongoose systems, but don't do it to a Scorpion as they have a tiny back box and sound dreadfull!!!

Didn't find my Saph loud at all with middle box removed, just made the burble at idle sound real nice.

I've still got my centre box, but all the baffles blew out a long time ago...

It was 94dB static at Rockingham yesterday, on boost it's a lot louder though, plus the occasional explosion between gear changes doesn't help.
