Cool RS1600i or XR3?

Ok as this is my first post, let me introduce myself,
I'm Cornelius Aveling from South Africa, age 25

ok about 3 weeks ago i got myself a Escort for a give away price,
(about the same price as 2 sets of tires and rims)

only problem is i'm not entirely sure what model this is, but it's down to XR3 or the rs1600i. the papers do not reveal much, only it's first license was issued on 30 Mar 1985

here's a few pics,

on the surface all looks fine, but taking a closer look to the 3rd pic you'll notes the floor at the passenger side got a good deal of damage, surgery needed.
the electronics is well.. there's about 8 wires connected to the negative on the battery and the positive is much worst, with breaches running from the breaches, although the car is drivable, the wiring must be replaced.

my plan for this project:

interior/exterior

- repair all body damage, surgery where needed to remove rust.
- new doors, electric windows (doors have some small rust, but here's a place locally that can supply replacements, so easy that way)
- new bonnet
- new boot
- new seats, buckets for front
- new dashboard (there's rumors that the newest escort's dash fits, but yet to see)
- new carpet and roofing
- new steer wheel, ignition, lights and wiper switches, +anything else that can be replaced
- sound installed
- aircon

mechanical:

- electronics completely redone, new light fittings all round, some extras planned*
- suspension replaced, upgraded where possible
- brakes redone, upgraded as possible
- a decent inter-cooler,sport air filter
- bigger carburetor, maybe a 32/36 or 36/36 webber, though the 36/36 will eat fuel.
- engine balanced, ports grinned, racing pistons and all other needed goodies
- turbo
- stainless-steel branches and exhaust

so basically it's the full Monty.

i'll be doing most of the work myself, and this will be my first project, so gonna need to do a bit of research, and will take a bit of time
I'll post more pics as this project evolves.

xr3 i reckon, but being from africa your models differ from ours here in the uk (wheels etc)

if its carb its deffinatly an xr3, or just a 1.6 etc as the rs1600i is injection

good luck with the project

it's a carb, got a 32/32 webber by the looks of it.
so then it's the XR3

i'll take a few pics of the engine in a hour or 2 and add it here.

say anyone know where i can find a downloadable workshop manual for the escort ?
or at least a wiring diagram?
i know where the wires goes, only would like to use the correct colours,

looks to be a base model, with a few add ons as if it were registered in 85 and an xr3 it would have the injection system and not the carb, more like a gl,
