hi there lads is there any way to tell wot pump is on my 3dr
why im asking is my 3dr has a t34 on it with black 55lb injectors swedish plenum rs 500 intecooler and running only 15psi boost but when i up the boost it starts to splutter and back fire . we have set the AFR to about 12
and i have a fuel pressure gauge unber the bonnet and its at 3 bar and 3.5 bar with the vac pipe of . so im thinking it could be the pump or the wire running the pump . im going to run the fuel pressure gauge into the car and see wot it dose when the car comes on boost should it still be 3 bar ???????? and wot should the volts on the pump on tick over and on boost be showing .. thanks for any help

but you can check it at idle to see what your getting, and it its obviously low at idle it will be even lower while on boost
should be seeing around 12v at idle, before i rewired mine i only had 9v at idle

thanks for that mate i will go had have a look at it as its good you can do some of it on tick over. is there any way to tell wot pump it is standerd/044 ???
standard it'll have the yellow/black push on connectors but when people fit 044s they ususally cut them off and crimp on ring connectors!! also thing the terminals are blue and red from memory, also standard the pump has a moulded inlet pipe that the pipe coming from the tank goes onto whereas an 044 will be a screw in fitting!
fuel pressure should increase 1:1 with boost normally, so for every 1 psi of boost pressure the fuel pressure should raise 1 psi, this will increase on the atmospheric value which is 3.5 bar std

cant check fuel pressure while live mapping? really? we do all the time
check the voltage under load, static doesnt mean much tbh

looks like a 044 pump to me; can you take a pic of the line from the tank to the pump to make sure
to be honest i dont think you problem is fuel related; i would be looking elsewhere, have you checked the CPS and phase?

COLSEY, What plugs are you running and what gap? My guess is irridium!

and wot do you meen.... wow lol we do all the time
I doubt many live mappers do..How do you check it on a 4x4 cos? bit of metal pipe inbetween the connecter down by the inner wing? And I was reffering to using his fuel pressure guage that he already has

he has already stated he intends to run a gauge in car which is a good thing to check

cant drive to work on a frosty moning on the rollers either,
no better scenario for mapping than the actual conditions the car will actually be used in
we hear det just fine with the correct equipment

bin the motocraft plugs, get some NGK copper's and gap to .6 or at least gap the motocraft ones down.
So you's have cars all year round for mapping? jeez!
Less chance of killing yourself or some innocent person on the rollers tho eh you must admit?

its highly unlikely imo its fuel as unless its alot short it will still run but lean, and if its holding base pressure at idle and good voltage then shows pump/wiring isnt completeley fubared. its quite possibly a spark related issue.
have you got an ignition cut at over 1 bar boost in your ecu maybe ?
my car had crap voltage to the pump, constantly crap droping to base pressure at 1.5 bar boost, that still ran but getting very lean.
id definitaley be looking at ignition side aswell mate.

yep all year, we can map anywhere like brunters etc if we feel the need for big power stuff, we dont take risks, its our jobs and lives we do it for a living not for a laugh
and 071c is a good plug to over 600bhp, so they wont be the problem
.6 is way to small a gap on coil pack. .75 is fine

could it be that . Me and Martin no that the car needs to go on the rollers to set it up 100% and the chip is just a bass chip to run the stuff on the car

Iv been on EBAY having a look at some of the pumps on there and one thing iv see is that there are some pumps on there for ford escort rst and they have the same blue ends on them the same as is on my pump which is making me think just get a new pump off MATT lewis and be done with it as if it is one of them pump and it standerd and i wont to be running 360/380 BHP it needs to be right . but im still going to do some testing on the car over the weekend to see if i can put my finger on it
looks like a group a to me mate, how long you been using them 071's for ? i bought a set of them and threw them in the bin after 10 miles, mine was fine on stage 1 with these but soon as i stepped up to greens & t34 it was missing like fuck, changed to some champions and it was spot on

yes mate BUT its only ever been run with 15.psi boost i did have a play with the boost about 3 months back and it did the same .and sins then the chip and injectors have been changed and plugs have been changed and iv now had a play for the second time and its doing it again
my old saph did just the same was fine up to 18 psi above that and would just misfire. i changed fuel pump to group a, checked voltage and pressure all good.
i put it down to an ignition problem but i never did cure it just left it on 18 psi.
its not something silly like map sensor is it ? definateley got a 3 bar on there and its working ok ? your symtoms are definateley similar to hitting overboost, my old escort rs turbo did exactly the same thing if it ever saw 11 psi on standard ecu, would just misfire where i think the ecu was cutting the spark due to seeing overboost.

I dont think its the chip as it did it on the old chip to . If i cannot sort it i will just give it to martin and get him to sort it as he has all the kit to find the fault and put it right
