Driving home tonight and suddenly my main beam went off and just went to side lights, so I switched them off on the light stalk then back on and they came back on, then they went off and havent come back on again only the side lights, is it my light stalk knackered?? , and when I pull back the stalk on the left side [as if to flash some one] just the passenger main beam light comes on..

Bloody escorts had same prob with my turbo and now me 3i run around doing same its the little relay in fuse box at back (think its brown one)push it in a bit and should work its something to do with dodgy conection.had to change loom in turbo as my fuse box caught light

 

I had a similar sort of problem on my old orion, it turned out to be the fuse box

Check the relay in the fuse box if not swap the light stalk, had problems with both in my RS

 

i used to have a problem where every time indicated my beam would go of,
it was my indicator stalk, try your light stalk

 

On my old Mk3 shape Orion I had countless indicator stalks on it due to them melting inside. I used to do a lot of night time driving and had the lights on a lot which eventually caused the dipped beam to go and sometimes main beam as well. Sometimes it would come back on if I indicated...

I ended up splitting a couple down and reshaping them with a soldering iron a couple of times to get me out of the shit and as spares.

 

check the wires as well on the connector blocks that plug into the stalk, I had to re do a couple of wires on mine because they were literally just about to snap off !

 

Had the same problem with me old 3i, had to keep wrigling the relays in the fusebox, in the end i just got a complete fusebox of an old 1.6 ghia from the scrap yard cleaned it up and fitted it and it was fine

I have changed the r/h stalk and they came on. Went to it tonight and passenger main beam only comes on now, pulled the left hand stalk to flash and nothing happend, then pulled it again to flash and they all came on, but still no driver main beam on, but it does work when i pull the l/h stalk to flash. Will check the realy again tomorrow.... , also when i switch the lights on I can hear the fuel pump kick in as well??

 

i had the same with my old orion, when messing with the stalk they flickered on and off, try getting a new/used stalk.

 

had the same problem take the relays out theres 2 right at the back of the fuse box and bed the tabs out abit and slt them back keep bending until there a tight fit in there holes and they should get a betta connection thats what i did with mine and i havent had a problem since good look mate hope it works for u
