very basicly
if you can prove that you paid too much tax i,e on fuel , tools and genera lwork related expenses you can claim it back .
the best people to help you fill out your return is an advisor from the tax office , they will help you for free , unlike an acountant

were you REGISTERED as self employed during those dates?if so you should have had a self assesment form sent to you, its a bit of a minefield mate your best bet is to phone your local tax office and check with them, get a good accountant but be aware you mite accually owe them money if you've not payed enough tax.
