Default Ford focus 1.4 low power misfire

hi all need a little advice

yesterday i went to look at my sisters car because she said it wont go over 40mph?

so got to the car started it up ticksover fine.. take it down the road 1st gear fine 2nd gear fine 3rd gear loses all power and same in 4th and 5th.

pull out the plugs. plug 1 and 4 are black.. 2 and 3 are the right colour.

shine a torch down the plug hole 1 and 4 are a bit wet, 2 and 3 are nice and dry so looks like no spark to 1 and 4 under load

so changed the leads and plugs as its the cheapest thing to test and still the same.

ive done a search on here and google and ive found it could be the coil pack, ECU, head temp sensor or the MAF sensor.

so just wondering if anyone knew what its most likely to be so i don't waist hundreds trying them all

any help much appreciated

Thanks
Justin

GO to a tat yard and get a second hand coil pack of any escort / mondeo . its only were the plug leads plug on to look out for as theres 2 tipes clip/and /push.... 90% that will sort you out mate . and the coil pack dose not have to be of a 1.4 a 1.6/1.8/2.0 will work ok mate

+1 on the coilpack. Almost everytime I read up on this its the culprit. Check the window washer hose (tubing) isn't leaking onto spark plugs. Clean off battery terminals too, and maybe sand them a bit till there shinny and free from any gunk etc. Goodluck with sorting it.

Hi, just been driving then shifted from 4th to 3rd to go uphill and lost power. Now seems ok 1st 2nd and 3rd, then stutters in 4th and 5th takes a while to accelerate in these gears. Just had a new coil pack fitted and a new clutch 2/3000 miles ago, would it be 1 of these again?
