someone done it? thinking of putting a 1.7 isuzu turbo diesel in my escort mk4.

 

I would just buy a mk 3 astra td a lot easyer

it works mate a friend of mine has 1 of them jordan civic engines in a mg metro lol and its fookin fast lol

 

are you thinking of this because you want diesel economy?? If so why not put in an 1.8 td out of a newer escort?? be much easier and similar end result, you can have a fiddle with that engine if you want more power. Mounting it and finding a gearbox will also be simple

 

yes mate diesel economy and maybe a bit power. i was thinking f the 1.6 diesel, but they say its heavy and slow as fuck. They say that the 1.8 turbo has shit fuel economy? The license fee is a killer too

 

the 1.6 diesel hasnt the power to pull the skin off a rice pudding mate andything over 1549cc is more expensive tax so the isuzu 1.7 would come under this, Plus id imagine you'd need some kind of engineers report, the amount of work to get a isuzu in would far outway any savings you'll ever make . i had a mk5 escort 1.8 td with a boost increase and fuel and still got 45mpg and was flat out everywhere, also had a mondeo td for work and driven steady used to knock ojn the door of 50 mpg. they love chip fat and red diesel too lol

put the vauxhall 1.3dt eco you get 70mpg

 

the amount me work required to turbo the 1.6 would be a propper ball ache. Special lower comp pistons etc etc. I dont know why your fucking about so much. Just buy a diesel mondeo for 100 quid and get it sorted

 

yes but the isuzu is faster and a bit more reliable than the 1.8

 

i just put a 1.8 td into my fiesta van after blowing up its 1.8d and the difference is bloody noticeable mate! 1.8td for the win, easy to drop in and convert, easy for bits from scrappies and doesnt cost the world to run or repair!

its quick in the astra yes but the mondeo engine is just as haevy so they both be about as quick but as for reliable we've had 2 1.7td astras mk3's and three mondeo 1.8td estates and the estate 2 out of 3 are still on the road as 1 got wrote off both astras got killed off engine wise

 

Ive had loads of dervs of all brands and 1.7 isuzu is pish, smokey,really rattly oil and water using shite, Fuckin inside of vauxhalls shudder like hell on tickover idle speed, my cavalier was mince

Never ever had any problems with my ford 1.8d and TDs

 

whats the average mpg of the 1.8 then?

and how about a new ford diesel engine? like the 1.4? does it get good mpg or just the same? thankx

 

no ryan 1.8 td is more reliable plus if you turbo the 1.6 it d be faster than the 1.8 i m maltese too there was a guy who fitted a twin turbo on a standard 1.6l deisel on an escort mk4 too it was awesome and it took him 6 months to blow the engine. he used to run something near a cosworth in a quarter mile besides if you turbo the 1.6 or fit an 1.8 td from an escort you ll go way cheaper. the only drawback is that it s a bit heavier but if you install a deisel front end you won t have any problems

 

hey mate welcome to the site! yeah fitting the 1.8 or 1.6 is much more easier. I dont want it to be THAT fast, just a normal runaround with some balls

think the mpg on the 1.8 is inferior to the 1.6 eh?

 

not sure bout that i think it s nearly the same but if you want cheapest go for the 1.8td cause it s a factory turbocharged engine so it has lower compresion cause if you fit a turbo to the 1.6 you need to buy turbo intercooler manifolds and then fit them to the 1.6 (unless the 1.8 and 1.6 utilise the same manifolds but i don t know). anyway if you fit the turbo to a non turbo engine you ll have a faster engine due to higher compression but you ll risk blowing it if you exagerate :P cheers and good luck

hmm, not that keen on the blowing bit lol license fee is the same for the 1. and 1.8, so its just down to the engine really.

dosen t have that much rust at least it looks like the rear doors are the weak spot for that car, mine is a fiesta mk3 with cosworth front spoiler and the rest is rs body kit :P but needs respray too. Good luck with the respray and engine mate keep us informed

 

the modern 1.4 and 1.6 tdci engines are psa peugeot engines and ar shite reliability wise.

the old 1.8 td is by far the easiest and best option, the othe r option is to graft in a 1.8 tdci from the focus that will give you 115 bhp, and with a tuning box will get 130 bhp to, i still have rr print from my old 1dci focus, 128 bhp and 222 lb/ft

is it to much hassle to put the tdci, and does it give you better mpg than the escort or mondeo one?

 

the biggest issue is the wiring, the older td lumps will actually run with minimal effort, the tdci has a pretty complex loom but if you crack the wiring it should not be to much of an issue, i would guess in the escort it will a pretty good performer

 

what about a zetec?? like 1.25, or an old 1.3 from the mk4??

 

the 1.25 is alot of hasle for nothimng, the 1.3 hcs will drop straight in now worries

 

yeah, but I think it is still a shit performer and shit mpg, maybe a 1.5 toyota tb pmsl

Hi, I,ve gor a 1.6 mk 4 cabriolet with a diesel in, bad at pulling up hills but brilliant ecinomy and reliable. I have a mk6 escort 1.8td very fast but not so good economy. If the 1,6 engine blows would fit a 1.8 non turbo engine only because it is a esay swop.

 

early 1.8td with the intercooler,think they are 95 and 110 bhp versions iirc,open the pump up a bit and you will have a economical flying machine.the 1 1.6 d van i had was quick for a non turbo small engined mk4 van.the pump was opened up and it was an ex post van so had had death from day 1.just remember and change the cambelt on the 1.8,my last td mk6 escort did 45 mpg

 

Hi, just bought the 1.8 while i weld the cab up for mot. How do you open up the pump on the 1.6 has i am sure a few years ago a garage turned something down to pass the emision part of mot.When should you change the cambelts on a 1.8 the guy i bought it off says they were changed 14 months ago but it has only done a 1000 miles in the last year by the mot records. Thanks
