i have a phillips 47" lcd 1080i HD tv and its very good indeed, my advice would be just nip to comet or currys and have a look see which ones look good to you. after all your the one thats going to be looking at it, nevermind what the keyboard warriors have to say on here, if the lg looks good to you and you find the price is good then why not, good luck matey.

Which LG model is it mate? They have come on in leaps and bounds and now make decent kit for their lower price.
Only issue I have read about is that their LCD's can suffer from image retention.
Panasonic are considered to be the better end of the market, especially in Plasma.

look at the pixzals is it 50000_1 10000 2 1 personally u should be looking at sumthing like 1 millon or more for a decent picture in 1080 full hd samsungs blacks are not as black as say a LG well thats the bullshit i just had of the currys gang took there advice though no regrets
As i said i paid 443 for mine. Went for it as ive had panasonic/technics stuff for years and only went for the samsung one as it was much cheaper at the time!
read the reviews around the net mate and peoples comments, pioneer/panasonic are out front with the tv's atm, you can pick them up as cheap as £400 through to daft money
I had an LG 42" LCD tv, worked fine for the first 3 months until it packed up. Went back for repair 3 times until I said enough was enough, got my money back and bought a 50" Samsung plasma, which, touch wood, has been perfect since!!
Personally, I wouldn't touch anything LG again!

Mate, at the moment I reckon this baby is the best value out there, the Panny TX 46G10B for £750 at Dixons.
If I were in the market, which unfortunately I am not due to being skint I would buy it. I know that you reckon 37 is the biggest you can go, but people do reckon once they are in your room they 'appear' to shrink down.
Opinion also seems to be that you do not need a 1080p with a screen size of less than 42 and a viewing distance of over 8-9 feet as the human eye cannot notice the difference. This is just stuff I have picked up from over on the AVforums.

I have an LG monitor (not a TV, granted) but its brilliant. I mainly use it to game, and it has a really nice picture, easy to see things, and has never failed me. LG have really come a long way in a few years.

Not got an LCD myself, mine's a plasma (but only cos of the size), but when I was out shopping with my friend last year when he wanted a TV, we spent a whole day looking all over the place at varying LCD's, and eventually settled on a Sony 40". It's by no means top of the range, but it's not the budget model either, and for it's performance, it was better (both in performance and value for money) than a lot of others, including several Samsung and LG models. My brother has a 32" LG, and I'm not really impressed with it, neither is he.
What you need to remember is there are only two manufacturers of LCD panels - Sony and Samsung/LG (Samsung/LG are the same company) so these panels are all very much a sameness. However, the difference in the differeing brands is the "engine" in the TV - thats what all the "Bravia", "XD" etc is all about. Software and processing makes a big difference, and my money is on Sony for the better product (IMO of course)
As for Pio or Panny, I can't only comment on plasma's as I've only ever looked at their plasma's really. Pioneer are out of the game now, and have stopped producing plasma screens. They were number one, now Panasonic are. Panasonic have also just bought all the technology and software from Pioneer, so their TV's should be on a par with the most recent Pio's come next year, and after that they should surpass what Pio have achieved so far. Pio are renowned for making some of, if not the, best plasma's available.
General rule of thumb, in most cases, is <40" go for LCD. 40" and over, go for plasma. However, the rule can be broken for some of the 40-46" 1080p LCD panels, as these are getting very good now.
Black levels tend to be better on most plasma's compared to LCD's, tho LCD's are generally sharper in a like for like situation. The difference in hi-def, 24fps viewing is negligeable at best now tho.
LED is the new forefront of flat panel technology. More colour, more vibrant, more depth, more clarity, faster response times, quicker brightness and contrast changes. But more bucks too.......

Sony and Samsung don't use the same panels, Samsung and LG use the same panel (as they are the same company) Sony use their own panels, and offer "budget" panels to other brands, as do Samsung/LG. There is a possibility that the budget panels offered by Sony and Samsung are a joint effort, but the all the Sony TV's use Sony panels, afaik
"Sony is planning to begin buying LCD TV panels from its rival Sharp, possibly as soon as April of this year.
Sony is currently running an LCD panel joint venture with Samsung"
thought i had read it somewhere

720p limits you to a maximum screen resolution of 1280x720, a 1080p enabled TV has a maximum resolution of 1920x1080.
Defiantly keep a close eye on contrast ratios, the higher the ratio the better the colour depth. My plasma has a contrast ratio of 33,000:1 where as some of the other TV's I looked had for the same money only had say 10,000:1.
I currently have a Sony Bravia KDL40V4000 and IMO it was by far the best TV out there for the money when I bought it £595 form Curry's.
Big-Dan.

I'm also a Panasonic fan
I spent ages looking around at different TVs before I decided to buy a Panasonic, I went to a few different places and compared the picture quality and for the money the Panasonic was spot on, I liked the quality of the samsung LED ones but I wanted 50" so I settled for the Panasonic and it looks like the bigger version of Lee Reynold's one above

One of my mates has an LG and he doesn't like it and says he wouldn't buy another

I'm confused now
it wasnt directed at you, it was directed at everyone that jumps on the thread with the this is the best and that is the best so you must buy this etc... i was just trying to say that he has got to watch it so go and look at them instead of listning to everyones opinions that dont really matter because everyones eyes are different.. but the comment wasnt directed at you personaly it was a generalisation.
You'll get far more of a feel as to whats what than you will reading on the net.
