Hi all
Only thing that bothers me about my ST is that there is no glovebox light. The box is about 18" deep so its like the fucking abyss at night when i'm rooting around trying to find what I want amongst all my mrs's shite
When I open the lid there is one of those presser things, that looks like it should turn the light on and off when the lid opens, but there is no actual light. There is no mention of a glovebox light in the manual either!
Any suggestions?
Rich

have a look for a little plastic plate where a light unit would fit in.
Theyve done this on loads of fords where some ghia or something has the light but nothing else
I dont have focus 2004 on wiring diagrams but i do have c-max 2003 1/2 and it shows glovebox lamp so you might be able to get parts off that if it isnt available for the normal focus. The parts just a simple plunger with a lamp holder.
The fiesta version looks like this:

it fits into a bracket like this:

It will likely be slightly different on later cars.

Cheers for the info warren! That little plunger is definately what is there, but from when I looked last there was no hole or anything where a bulb might go. When it stops chucking it down i'll go out again and have another look!!

Give yourself a pat on the back warren!! Took the glovebox to bits earlier and the switch had an integral bulb in it which had blown, was a bugger to get out and replace though!!! No wonder it wasn't in the manual, needed to remove the complete glovebox to get to the bulb, what a joke! The switch assembly was similar to the one you posted. Shame it doesn't actually light up the inside of the glovebox though, just the inside of the fooking lid when its open

No it works all the time when the lid is open, open your lid and see if you see the little plunger there at the top of the box. Pretty pointless though, as said, it only lights up the inside of the lid!
If you want to do it, i'll post up a quick how to of how to take your glovebox apart!

I had a similar problem on me sapphy, in that the glovebox light wasn't worth having!!
It really didn't illuminate much at all, like the interior lights.
I did something about it though, a lot of aftermarket led's are crap, after trying loads as a flashaholic, most are this blue crap that doesn't give out much light, but the ones I now use are awsome.
I get them from dealextreme.com, where they are item number 15648, they cost £4.35p, it is a 12led flat disc about 1 1/2" in diametre, intensely bright.
I have fitted one in the glovebox, with the supplied bulb adaptor(wedge bulb), I simply "wound" the wire slightly so that it sits fully under the led unit, which is 2mm to 3mm high, with a super sticky pad on the rear, you can easily see the light in bright daylight, let alone night time.
I also fitted 2 in the front either side of the sunroof handle, and one in the rear on the std rear interior light, though had to drill the metal bulb holder to fit this one, as no adaptor to fit.
I have my interior lights wired so that the front ones when illuminated/turned on from switch on light also lights rear one up but the rear when turned on does not light the front one, so in the back can have the light without me being dazzled in the front.
Trust me these babies dazzle, they have just the merest hint of blue, they light the pavement through the windows of the car, when the doors are opened they light the floor well, they don't get hot either.
I also used these on the other halfs car, and ordered some more for the boot of the sapphy, and underbonnet.

Cheers tabetha, I was thinking about chucking in another light into the glovebox, can wire it to the original switch without any bother. Shall go for an LED bulb I think, there's literally miles and miles of wiring behind the glovebox, wouldn't want to go melting things!!!

Trust me just ONE of the ones I use is way more than enough, and they use 737 milliamps when tested.
I put one on top of my 12v 3ah test battery, that I use for projects, and was able to read a book from the light reflected from the white ceiling quite easy, the light was about 1 foot above the table surface facing straight up.
If you want I can take some piccies and email them to you ?

Sorry to bring up an old thread, The mark 2 focus seems to have a cut out plate in the inside at the top left hand side of the rim. Thinking it was for an aux port but the lead wouldnt fit in it if the lid was shut as the cable would stick out. Any ideas what its for? as its been cut out now and we need to fill the hole.

No only come on with interior light, have a look in the footwells above the dash, you should have the bulb holders already there.
