hello every one im a new member but i have been browsing passion ford for a while now and it seems to be alot more friendly than most others. my name is jon and im a mechanic living in eastbourne and i am very dedicated to fords. now about my cars. i have three fords and two are being built atm. my daily drive is a 16v xr2i and my show car im building is a fiesta rst but enough about them ill do posts for them later. this post is about my 2wd saph cossie which comes with a little story, il keep it short i promise
my best maste terry bought this saph as his 1st cossie. when he bought it he was told by the administrator of another forum (the owner at the time) that even though it has sat in a barn for a year promised that it was ok so terry had it picked up. when he got it he found it was just abit worse than what he was told, we got it going and i mot'd it and it failed on shitloads of things (3 full pages), we done all these bits and got it on the road which lasted about 4 months because it was such a poor condition things just kept going wrong so he decided to break it before he lost too much money. he removed and sold most bits but got bored of breaking it when there was still alot of it left (including the personal number plate), so one day he asked me if i could help him scrap it so naturally i said i would buy it off him and he said if i could move it i could have it. it then when staight down to our new unit.
i plan to build it back to more or less standard ready for future modding, its a horrid purple colour atm but that will change to the 4x4 metallic magenta so if anyone knows the paint code that would be great. its not the original colour but its just awsome!! the progress will be a little slow as im a mechic on shite wages and im also building the frst and maintaining the xr2i. so heres some pics of how i got it

looking sorry aint she but have faith she will bark again
work has started and i have striped her completely and assessed condition and found inner and outer sills have some rot and are also full of expanding foam (i guess it was some brainiac's great idea to prevent rot but obviously didnt work) so ive had to cut open the sills and remove it all, the nearside front wig is rot and very poorly fitted (no sign of any pevious damge to shell) it had dodgy enternal fuel lines and a big hole made in the tunnel for them to go through and also it had a gash gear shifter lock bolted to the tunnel hence the two patches. when i was removing the front anti roll bar the captive nuts snaped off inside the rails so i had to cut into the rail to weld some new nuts in. once i had done one side i realised i could get to them through the floor vents!!! stupid boy!!. i have been doin the metal work for a little while now but dont have pics of that yet but will get them uploaded but heres some pics of the car striped and work started.

i hope you can see the potential coz i defiantly can. this this the first cossie ive built so any advise (like the 4x4 magenta paint code) or parts for sale then i would love to hear from you. i will get the new pics up next weekend as this is the only time i get to work on her. thank you for your time. jon

hi peeps small update. I havent been able to do much due to the xr2i craving my attention again!! but this is what i got done before my gas run out ( i was going to buy more the weekend after the xr2i shit itself)
im going to warn you now im not the neatest welder as im 100% self tought and only been welding 1 1/2- 2 years, i can do invisible repair but the sill get hidden by the skirts but it is solid and properly welded and repaired with quality thick sheet metal, so hears some pics
firstly i repaired the offside inner sills and rewelded the sill back on and repaired the rot sections and rebuilt the rear section

wen i cut down the sides and along the bottom of the sill and bent it up, like the cock i am i didnt realise it would close the door gap so i had to hammer and dooly it for an age to get the gap of the cut to close up, so with the otherside i cut along the top as wel and removed the whole sill
hears some pics of the near side sill cut off and inner sill repaired

while i was repairing the sill i found another hole but the wing was i the way of see the whole thing so as its being replaced anyway i cut it off. good news though the hole is only small and the top corner were it wasnt fitted proplery and showed signs of rusting was ok,

after that little episode i decided to go on another rot hunt and was ok but found one small bit

it should look ok with the undersealer on
as soon as the xr2i is back on the road ill be cracking on with it. sorry its been slow folks 3 cars are hard work!!

Hi Jon,
you certainly been busy, looks like it is coming on well.
I will have to pop over sometime and have a look, see how looks in real life as pics can never really tell the full extent of what you done.
Keep a file of the resto and we could send into RSOC mag, get you a feature.
If weather is better at some point I will bring the Sapphire too.
See you at Mark and Petes in new year tho
regards
Jas
