Default Garage alarm

I'm laying my car up for the winter for the first time but i've rented a garage aprrox. 1.5 miles away from home.Looking for some kind of alarm that will alert me if the garage door is opened, its also got no mains power so it would have to be battery operated.Anyone recommend anything for me? cheers

Get one of those mobile phone thingys that rings your phone if the bell is activated. Its very old hat but I am pretty sure it will do the job.You can even leave a 12v battery in there with the phone charger connected.

Have just had a quick look and couldn't find exactly what I was after,I seem to remember coming across this labelled as a boat alarm. It uses some old mobile phone to text or ring you if its triggered.
Google is your friend lol.

Ive got one of these, not cheap at £400 but it works, has loads of settings, and the battery lasts for about 3 years. It senses when the garage door is open and sends you a text...

you want 2 alarms. One An easily visible deterrant alarm for when you open the door to either scare off thick CHAVs and/or to waste the time of a professional thief so they spend the 10 seconds it takes to rip it off and smash it. That will give your second alarm time to send you a text.

You could build an SMS based alarm system yourself and use a power invertor on a 12v car battery. You could add a small solar panel to lengthen the battery life (small alarms dont draw much).

But remember you need to check on it regularly to swap battery with a spare.
