We are planning a kitchen at the moment and are looking for some inspiration. When the time comes I am happy to do a step by step pictorial, but for now...

Show Us Your Kitchens and for those of you not too shy, tell us your final fitted prices too!

Go modern:

http://www.bellabyba.com/kitchens/avant-garde/

Ours is simple wooden faced doors, and faux granite worktop. Couldn't justify the cost of granite at the time. With stainless steel accessories.

My kitchen pics. Just took them on my phone so not the best!

Didn't cost us much at all, as we fit kitchens and bathrooms But if it helps give any inspiration?

Wow, this topic is going great so far, cheers guys. We are converting our unused back room into the kitchen as its twice the size but as a result we are having to install a back door and raise a 5 window bay up to kitchen height. Thats adding a lot of cost to the quotes but the kitchen itself seems to be crackers money for what is essentially a load of wood!

If I could be so cheeky, Could you guys be so good as to quote wether your price is fitted by an outside company or just price in parts as you have fitted yourself please?

Keep them coming, some nice kitchens here!

Excuse the image sizes.

Here is ours - Mother wanted a "country cottage" style kitchen.

Cost was about £3500 without white goods IIRC, My old man fitted it (used to be a builder and general site man a few years ago and then had his own DIY business)

All the units and worktops were ordered from JP Distribution in Leeds who are one of the main players in supplying the major kitchen and bathroom shops in the UK and we still have a credit account with them too

excuse the state of it at the moment , we had a house full last night and a bit of a late one

i fitted this last year , all bought from b&q where the bird works so we got a decent discount

i set a budget of £3k but ended up closer to £4k . all new carcus's , doors ,tiles , blinds, lights new cooker , washer and fridge , the tap has a filtered cold water outlet too which wasnt cheap but i have never used it .

looking at the pictures i better go clean it up

forgot to add , when laying out your budget take into account small things like door handles as although we had a decent discount they still cost me £250. its the small things that add up m8

Brad's is very similar to mine, gloss white cabinets, "metro" gloss black tiles etc.

I moved a lot around in our kitchen, eye level cooker, detached hob etc. and including the oven and Miele washing machine it came to £5k. That didn't include real slate floor [which I fucking regret now as it never stays clean ] and the fridge/freezer.

We had it provided and installed by B+Q. The fitter was a numpty and we've had quite a few snags but all done by them in good time. The quality of the units is only OK. We're extending in a couple of years and I will not use them again for the refit!!

I got my mate to do the electrics as I didn't trust B+Q and their prices are mental.

All in, it's probably cost £6k but we bought the house as a wreck and budgeted a lot more, happy days!!

for the cost of a bespoke kitchen we could build an extension to our house and have a cheapo kitchen fitted that was twice the size

so the first question that's been asked (and answered in a previous post by stu) is "which room are you going to put the kitchen in?"

you also have to factor in things like stripping out the old stuff, electrical compliance, plumbing and gas safe registered folk to get everything legal and certified

ikea do a great kitchen planner that should give you some idea of what will fit where and the relative cost, but a nornal unit from the likes of b&q will probably work out a 1/4 of the price of a custom made unit from the experience we've had, and we've been researching this for about 18 months and still haven't decided

Regarding cost, Stu, are you getting builders in to quote for the kitchen or so called specialist kitchen fitters? As there isn't really such a thing tbh. A good joiner will fit you a kitchen to top standard and not charge what the 'specialist' does! Usually anyway

This is mine:

Only cost me £3500 for the whole kitchen including all cabinets, cooker, fridge freezer, washer/dryer etc and the floor tiles (although some of them are used in bathroom and hallway).

Fitting only cost me about £1k but that was part of a lot of other work in the house such as 2 bathrooms, repainting everywhere etc etc so its hard to work out exaclty how much was fitting costs of this, eg the tiling was fitted in one go right through to bathroom and hall as one job.

Ive fitted a few kitchens from various place Stu recently, from the local superstores to the bespoke hand made, and to be honoust the prices are ridiculous for what you get, and the specs vary so much as does the quality, top prices do not get you top quality in kitchens.

I have a company not too far from us who build them up for you and you fit, fitting kitchens is a peice of piss mate, though time can be the problem, though if the carcassses come build thats half the job done.

I can give you some numbers and also a mate who does it for a living.

ive probably only got a 6 months supply of dried/tinned provisions. Hardly excessive!!! When we have a really bad winter then it will be needed.

You cant go wrong with the Cooke & Lewis Range from B & Q range - www.diy.com- Ive spoken to plenty of fitters when delivering these who say they really are on a par with more expensive stuff, there made in Italy if thats any good these days lol...

Researching? Whats to research Doj, if you dont want to pay mega money go to Wickes or Ikea, if you want an expensive top notch kitchen get one custom made with Granite. Hardly rocket Science, but all the joiners one here will pay half the price of everyone else as they will fit it themselves.
Researching for 18 months, LOL, you realy are something else doj!!

I fitted ours almost 10 year ago, mid 2000. Only cost the price of materials. Wasnt too shabby for the work of a 16 year old back then. Still doesnt look too bad now but I want to change it next year.

As it was about 5 mins ago. Needing a clean up

Because when i was leaving the navy I used the last few months of my time there, while i was on almost £3k a month take home, to stockpile stuff i might need in the first few months/years in my first home. Ive got the same again pretty much of radox showergels in the bathroom and beyond the lynx shower gels is almost the same amount of hand soap dispensers, in the cupboards tons of cleaning products, a whole cupboard of bin bags, another 2/3 years of loo paper in basement. erm the list goes on.

Because my memory is really bad these days so if i dont label them i forget whats in each cupboard and also forget what im looking for when i get to open the door so the label also reminds me what i might have been looking for. Otherwise id spend loads of time walking into kitchen and wondering around the cupboards not knowing what i was doing /looking for!!! I still wonder into kitchen and forget why. Because im so forgetful i have quite a limited diet at any one time as otherwise if its complicated i forget what im doing, what needs preparing etc and its soon 10/11pm and i havent started on evening dinner Basically my brain is fucked

I think they think i have OCD or am nuts, but then they know that already so just confirms what they thought they knew. You see a lot of people think im a bullshitter then they come round and see stuff for real

do you iron your pants warren?

i fitted the kitchen in our last house, was an odd size and very difficult to get stuff that fitted without gaps betweent the cupboards and using a slimline cooker etc.

so i fucked off the guys that came round to measure up and done it diy.

i had to chop some of the backs off the carcasses, but got a full size cooker in there and managed to fit a sink and plumbing that meant i could get the diswasher and washing machine under the worktops, instead of 10cm sticking out...

it took some thinking about, and not realising that the corner cupboards had to be 10cm away from the wall to make the doors open etc that i didnt know about. as i measured everything to an exact fit, then when it came to fitting...

got there in the end lol. oh and i fucked up the grouting on the tiles as it was my first go... that was listening to mate tho, next time, ill do it off my own back!

the kitchen will need doing in this house in the coming years, everything work tho so were going to decorate the rest of the house first.

got outs flatpack from wicks, and our big jamie oliver plates were too big, the door wouldnt shut on the wall units!

so you lean things about sizes etc lol

mother in law have recently had their kitchen done, and they have some nice units, but i dont know where they came from.

ours was about 1k for the units, £600 for cooker and extractor, £600 for fridge and a freezer, worktops were £75 each for a 3m length (x3), paid my mate whos a joiner to notch them for £100 tiles were about £100 and flooring was about £100 (laminate). paint and materials sub £50 anda new kitchen light was about £60.

imo, dont get the halogen lights, as i dunno if its my eyes but i dont like the light they give off, so id get strip lights under the wall units and some spotlights etc in the ceiling
