are you looking for full range speakers or just tweeters?

to keep you right, tweeters cover the high range sounds, mids cover the mid range and woofers cover the lower range.

if these are your only speakers the sound will be crap, a set of componets or co-axial's may be the way to go .

are the components heavy though? so tweeters alone wont be good enough?

weights vary, components usually consist of a 4' to 6' speaker and a tweeter.

a tweeter alone would be no use IMO as you would loose any bass/mid range that was in the music.

Typically, the heavier the speaker the better the speaker, so make your mind up what you want.

ok, what car are they in? where are they mounted? are they round or oval? or are they like a sealed unit like a small house speaker?

if your wanting the best compromise between sound quality and weight saving, forget putting anything on the shelf just remove all the speakers in the car and put a good set of components up front.
