Default FAO Photographers.

Panoramic pictures, whats the best program to use to stitch the pictures together? and is it just a case of putting photo A over photo B until they match up?

I don't have photoshop no more, so don't mind using something else if need be.

Cheers

Also, if you got any panoramic pictures could you post them up please

Always used photoshop for mine, file>automate>photomergre and leave it on automatic, never let me down yet. If you aint got it or cant get it you can send them over and I'll run it through.

made from 13 images. full size

and this was approx 12 or so, full size was 10000+ pixels on longest side and loads of stars were visible

Marco, if you go to my Flickr they are all on there (link in my sig), I couldnt find anywhere else to upload them as theyre that big. If you go to look at them in full size it comes up with a red cross but if you click download the original size it should allow you to download the full size
edit, the last ones are still uploading so check back in say 5 mins
this is #1

edit to say, the next time you want to do one see if you can put your camera in manual and keep the same f-stop and exposure time as when your in automatic the camera will adjust to suit that particular scene and not the whole scene (5+ pics) like we want so some parts of the panorama will be brighter than others by way of the auto exposure, you can see it in this one with the darker blue area in the sky, I brightened it a bit but didnt want to go too far with it.

Just doing the big one now marco, i notice on that one you did keep the aperture and shutter at the same settings but you must have had auto-iso turned on as the ISO varies from 100-180 so again the camera has fettled the exposures slightly. Like the look of this one

Piece of piss mate, just go to file and automate then photomerge or it might be photostitch in cs3, choose the images, dont have to be in order it does it itself then let her rip in auto

mark, when it done it will look like this so you can either crop it, warp it, or clone in the areas that are missing. Its best when shooting for panoramas just to take a few extra outside the are you actually want to allow photoshop to fill in these gaps so you can crop back to what you actually wanted. You can see in this one the effects of not having the camera in manual.

marco, ive done the last one but its too big to upload, been honest it needs a good few hours on it just tweeking the exposure and colour balance etc. to get all them stitched together nice. Im not sure if theres any software out there that can normalise a set of photos like this to bring them all to similar exposures, I'll have a look around tomorrow

I'm another fan of Photoshop CS3 for doing panoramic images, works a treat, albeit a little slowly on my laptop!

It was about 0°C, so not too bad. I didn't know about that cable car at the time but i think it is closed this time of year.
