Default 3D in AutoCAD 2006 query

I use 2D CAD at work but I need to do something in 3D and when drawing I can only access the X and Y axis but not the Z axis. Anybody know what I need to press as for the life of me I can't remember Done this at college a few years ago but my mind is blank.

Cheers in advance people

Depends what you want to do - either go into the view menu and select a different plane (think they're called 'front' 'top' 'left' etc on autocad); or in the Draw menu select a 3d solid; or in the Transform/Modify menu select something like extrude. I'm on 2009 now so can't fire it up to check - fairly certain of the first two though!
