............. one of these missing teeth was jaming the selecta mechanism which is why I only had 1st and 2nd when it died
Not sure what the best plan is now really, find a good second hand box, get new parts for this one, etc..??

id just get a good second hand lower spec box, rob it if its gearset (assuming your not desperate to retain the exact rs turbo ratios), and then throw it together with your RST LSD, and with a new bearing kit which im again assuming u already have if you were sprucing up the box anyways

If you have gone this far then i would get the new parts you require and fix it. At least then you would know the box was good.

Not a bad plan, I have not bought the bearing/seal kit yet was waiting to get this apart and see what it needed.

thats what i did with mine anyways, as my RS box mainshaft was worn beyond belief

so ran home, grabbed the decent spare boggo box i had, had that stripped and inspected, robbed it of its fullg earset and bolted it all into the rs casing with the LSD and a new bearing set

basically my rebuild cost me 200quid all in, with paying him to strip 2 boxes. but it was cheaper than buying another rs box, still with the risk that it might be a dud, and then just having piles and piles of worn rs gearsets

the gear ratio issue wasnt of any concern to me though, nor is my spec as big as yours

I'd love to but i'm not competent enough with fabricating to do the conversion myself, I understand there is a fair bit of hacking and welding of the inner wings etc..

yes you do have mod the inner wing but thats the easy bit lol but if you cant weld it would cost a fortune to get it done.

The rest of the box looks alright, although it is one of the earlier small bearing box's so i'm going to have to have it machined out to accept the later bigger bearing or the rebuild is pointless

In the above picture.....
The cog up from bottom.... teeth look worn to me but i'm not sure if they are sposed to be like that?! lol

just use a early type ib5 box from a mk 5/6 escort they have the bigger bearings and the starter at the front then fit the lsd from your box

from what I read on jano's site theres 1 bit which needs cutting out and then plating as far as getting the box into the bay that is,
Are the mtx boxes that tough?
