To cut a realy long story short.. I used to work for volvo truck & bus but left (well forced to leave) in my 3rd year of apprentiship. My manager promised me id still get atleast my level 2 so i could complete my level 3 realy quickly to help me get a job else were. Anyways i managed to get a job at a local long distance haulage company & now a year on & manya phone calls to volvo & my college they say i left with nothing thanks a fucking lot. Anyways now i gota pull out £850 to get qualifed within 6 months or ill loose my job. My own fault i supose though ive been doing it for over 5 years
On the pluss side though my dad has offerd me a job in around a months time & he will put me through my class 1 too so it will help me get back into the dealers when this shit picks up.

 

Surely you would have realised you didn't have exam certificates etc?

IMO Qualifications are a load of rubbish or at least not as good as actually been able to do the work., if there getting rid of you because of it after you'd already "shown them what you can do" it's probably another reason there really getting rid of you.

 

im a supervisor & by law i shouldnt be doing my job without tickets thats why theyd have to get rid of me. & the mystery certs well every phone call was never returned by the college & volvo had no fooking intrest what so ever. today i finaly got an answer from the college

& im very good at my job thanks

i`am a qual plumber with 10 years exp (4 years as apprentice) and wouldnt bother trying for a supervisor / foreman job for another 5 years ...

 

was just in right place at right time mate, thers only 4 of us in the workshop. not the biggest either only 1 bay for hgv's & a small ish garage for cars (sorry i used supervisor abit excesivly *stand in*)

 

850 for your papers doesnt sound a bad deal , some employers might not even consider someone without papers in future

 

I wasn't saying you wouldn't be good at your job, just saying the qualifications wouldn't make you any better/worse, surely they've seen what you can do. Now you've explained why you need the qualifications though.

i did about 4 months of my apprenticship before my accident and the only bits of papr i got were based on the time i'd done, everythign else was discounted so be glad that you've got soemthing and that now you know what you are missing

£850 is a bargain for covering yourself and keeping your job
