Default Takes ages to start...

My S2 takes forever to start. It turns over and over and just about splutters in to life. The fuel pump relay seems to work as the pump primes when I turn the ignition on. I've not tested the voltage at the pump so I guess that's the next thing to do. Any suggestions/advice etc welcome, cheers

Yep I'm on MFI.

Well... I changed the head just recently to try and solve another problem and that was the same with starting, except maybe not quite so bad. Sure it's just one of those sensors? Just seems wierd it's doing it with both heads. I guess you can't buy the sensors from Ford any more...

Hello mate,

Have a look through some past posts this is one of the most common rst problems i have seen on here...

You either have (most likely order)
1) Bad sensor 1) weak starter motor
2) Dirty earth / connector somewhere
3) Bad setup - can be caused by bad adjustment, wrong fuel pressure, leaking injectors etcetc.
4) possibly a duff metering unit of fuel distributor, treat this as the most unlikely as this as far as i can tell is the most uncommon but also most expensive to replace (with a refurbed/good one.

have a read of these links to better explain a few things, one of the Pdf's also gives instructions on how to test all sensors.

All the best

If the timing is correct and you have a good spark and compression then it is your idle fuel mixture, either needs adjusting or is as said above.......... leaking main injectors or CSI, faulty CTS, AAD, EMFPA, or Fuel ECU.

It's just been set up so I know the fuelling sensors are all ok and idle mixture is definitely ok, it idles perfectly when started. So by the sounds of things we're narrowing it down to the coolant temp sensor or dying injectors. Can either of these be bought new?
