Default how to read codes ECU thrown.

Hi we have a sportka, the engine management light comes on alot of the time and then the engine stutters/ runs rough. i wondered if there is a way to read the codes of the ecu without the actual code reader, i know on my American GM cars i can get a paperclip and jump two pins on the conector then the dash light flashes given me the codes.
anything similar for fords ??
cheers

Afraid not, you need an OBD2 reader. I got one off ebay for less than £30, works perfectly.

Most garages have diagnostic kit these days, most places will stick it on for you and tell you whats up!
