Default Whats your oldest household appliance??

Just been saying my mother could do with a new fridge freezer as it looks battered now, she told me to stop bein stupid and she will only get a new one when it breaks. Then she told me she got it the year I was born, 1983. The damn thing is 26 years old. Pretty impressive I thought, for something that is on 24-7. The mirowave is also 16 years old and that takes a hammering too.

So whats the oldest thing you got at home????

Fridges/freezers last for ages, mainly because of the simplicity of the design and almost no moving parts. Thin the oldest thing i have is my washing machine at 3-1/2 years old.

Got a Sharp Microwave, bought new in 1990 when they cost a tidy packet, still going strong.

The iron can't be much younger either.

Dyson was bought around 2002-2003

Servis Fridge Freezer was bough in around 2004, which replaced one which was bought in 1981, lol, and the Hoover Washing Machine was bought in around 2002-2003 as well, and that replaced an old Servis from the early 80's also.

Most things have lasted pretty well.

My tumble dryer was my nans so is about 15-17 years old, my sister had it before me. It doesn't get used much but the belt snapped cost me Ł5 to fix so still going strong. Fridge freezer is about 9 years old the one it replaced was still going strong after about 20years but we had the chance of this new one.

I've got a 20+ year old JVC "portable" hifi, my brother bought it new when he worked at John Lewis. Was state of the art back then with a slide out turntable. All works a treat just needs a new needle. Bugger carrying it about though.

Annoys me that stuff doesn't last long anymore. My mum had a Zanussi washing machine for over 15 years. I've had 3 machines in 10 years!!

My mums tumble dryer Im 99% sure was a wedding present...they recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Certainly looks like it could be 25 years old. It hardly ever gets used.

We bought a Sharp microwave in 1985 and it was still in daily use till we bought one with a grill thing a couple of years ago. Couldn't bear to throw it out (thinking the kids might want it when they leave home - lol), so it's in the loft.

The wee telly in my office was a prize the wife won about 1990 or 1991.

Our bedroom telly (Nokia) was bought in 1996 and working fine.

I have a 36" CRT TV sat under the table at the mo (replaced it with a 50" plasma recently) and the sound on that was SUPERB. Mainly cos it had two proper speakers in it (and not the slim design ones they fit in flat TV's now) aswell as a 6" subwoofer in the back of it for 2.1 set up

Nearly all CRT's sound better than LCD's and plasma's tho, cos of less restriction with the size of speaker they can put in it. Nowadays, speakers have to be small, and people don't want to see them on either side of the TV, so they put them behind firing down = shit sound!

But to answer the question

I have a tiny 14" CRT TV upstairs, currently not doing anything cos I can't get any analogue reception here, but it still works (bar the remote that gave up years ago) Got it from my grandad, about 8yrs ago, and he must have had it for about 15yrs as I remember it being there as a boy - so it must be at least 23-25yrs old!

Our microwave must be older than me and I'm 22. My Amiga 600 would be second.

and I thought my VCR in the bedroom was old because I got it Christmas 93 My inlaws just had our old TV because they bought theirs in the mid 80's

Freezers are great until you defrost them with a screwdriver or knife My mum used to kill freezers that way and a mate killed his the same way.

All mine are 2nd/3rd hand so I wouldn't have a clue. All of its at least 5 yrs old. Telly and fridge gotta be 10+. I've also got a Baby Belling cooker that looks like its been around since the 60s - still worked last time I used it.
Some of your shit is fucking old though. Good going! Nice to see some other folk as tight as me.

We were given a tumble dryer, it is 33 years old! (Ok you have to jam the door shut at first to get it going but it still works)
