Default Help Needed!!! Oil Leak!

Hello all!

My engine is all back in now after the rebuild, and 2day tried to start her up for the 1st time! after a few cranks over she started and cut out after about 5 secs, but on the 6th or 7th time she ran but oil was out from down by the oil pump! Is this a common problem? I think it may be the crank shaft oil seal or the sump gasket! Ill have a closer look 2moz and see but does anyone know how hard it is to change the crank shaft oil seal?? Because i dont really want to have to take my engine out again lol !!!

if it is the crankshaft oil seal, the engine has to come out, flywheel off, sump off.

Yeah if it's crank seal then just remove the oil pump, but i would say sump gasket as these are notorious for being a twat to get right.

sorry, didn't realise it was the oil pump side (and you didn't say), can be done in situ, done a few pump changes in situ.
alternator/belts off. drop sump.
it is probably the sump like said, but to do either task the sump has to come off anyhow.

Been there. My money is on the sump. I've got mine sorted after countless attempts and tried EVERYTHING. What worked for me was PAYEN gasket - Kimbers locally supply them. No glue, silicon or anything. Fitted gasket to cleaned sump surface and offer up to cleaned block. Worked center out with a 1/4" drive ratchet nipping up then repeated tightening just a bit more. Iirc the manual says 5-8nm but when I torqued up like this it pissed out. Good luck.
