Default Tool chest / cabinets - cheapest place for a LARGE one?

As title, I have a couple in my garage, but want to get one decent sized one - like in the pic below, or bigger still.

I'm not a pro mechanic, my old £100 half the size of the pic jobbie has lasted fine for 10 years or more. I want something like the pic below, or bigger or similar, for much cheapness as I'm a tight bastard.

Under £500, well under if poss. Any suggestions? Where did you get yours?

I've seen the one pictured on Ebay for £500 which looks fine, but £500 is a bit more than I want to spend

I'm sure halfords had a deal on for a similar sized one...

Buy top chest at £330 and get the bottom free (worth somethin like £370)

check their website!

yeah normally anything on special is the same price with trade. Halfords are normally a good bet for toolboxes when they are on offer though.

Just looked and you're right, that looks like decent box quality wise, not sure if it's quite large enough. Will pop over to the local branch to see what the two look like in real life.

Cheers

Costco seems like a great place, I'm not a member, but I think I know a man who is. Any idea what sort of price and what it looked like? Nearest Costco to me is 50 miles away, and with a crap web site I can't see what the thing is like....

Will take a browse on the Machine Mart site shortly, shame we don't have one near here. Bloody poxy town in the sticks!

Just seen Screwfix have a cheapy range that might do the trick.

Any other suggestions/

Plus feel free to show off and post up pics of your tool cabinets

I would love this:

Kypton - Your tool box looks the dogs danglies, and not cheap I bet

Thanks Andy, that looks a decent size and sensible price. Think I need to pay a visit to Bristol and take a nosey round the Cost Co there. Can you get in without a card? Or do I have to drag a card carrying friend round with me?

Yeah, best thing to do is going along. You'll need to go in with someone with a card, they won't let you in otherwise.

Si, that one andrewg just mentioned is the one my mate bought. Not sure what he paid but he checked it out against Halfords, Snap On etc and said it was a bargain

they also do a slightly smaller one http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product...rodid=11258277

New ideally, and deffo can't afford Snap On prices new or 5th hand

I'm going to take a trip via Cost Co and Machine Mart in Bristol, and then probably land up down my local Screwfix ordering one of these:

£180

And then one of these, with the wheels removed, and bolted into the middle of the above item if it will fit:

£129

Or may go for that Halfords 2 for 1 offer mentioned above. Want as much storage as I can get for my money, and £300 ish is ok money.

Hmmm....

the problem with cheap boxes the bend and fall apart, every cheap box you see the drawers will be bent thro time anyhow.

that costco stainless one is heavy gauge and a lot more industrail than snap-on

I know Andy, and am sure you speak with years of experience

But I just can't afford something pricey that in essence will sit in the garage and then only be opened on the odd weekend.

I will deffo check out the stainless one you mentioned at Cost Co before I buy anything, but my old budget box (Think it's a "Homak" one?) is still going fine, and is just too small for all my tools these days.

If I was a pro or full time guy then Snap On, Blue Point or even that Cost Co one would be high on my list! But sadly for me, cheap is best

Just worked out that if I stacked that Screwfix stuff on top of each other it would be around 7 ft tall

Cool.

does anyone do the wide drawers?

i've got the normal starad sized ones with rollers and all that, i just need a wider one for the longer tools and to give it a bit more clutter free sort of look

preferably after something with deeper drawers too

Looks a decent size Brian I need something like that, but more like the base unit, then another base unit above! More space the better.

When I was looking I weighed up the options of getting one of the large stainless Costco boxes but it came in at £650 odd. In the end I got a 40" second hand Snap-on box from the bay for £700 and its mint.

These are shit pics as taken on my iphone but you get the idea:

Defo get a second hand box if you can!

Hi Kieron,

Nice pics Interesting garage contents, I see some nice toys

The Snap On box looks a decent size, but £700 or £500 is too much for me The red box beside it in your pics looks like my old £150 special from years ago, still going strong but way too small.

Anyone else with piccies?

Si

Thanks Si. Just wish I had some money to use them more.

That smaller box if a Sealey (American Pro) one. You know the one you get full of tools for £1200 or whatever the offer at the time is. Maybe get another one of them then? Or is space an issue? Empty, they are dirt cheap on the bay, even new...

Good tip off, and I do see the Snap On man's van on my local trading estate so I may collar him and ask, thank you

What have you got in there if you don't mind me asking, cars under covers are always interesting, even if they're shit!

Space no problem this end, I have 3 garages now, so low and wide would be just as good as narrow and tall. Really just want the most storage for least money.

I've seen a large Teng Tools box, packed with tools in proper partitioned and lined drawers for £2k, but I don't have that!

Snap On, so even 2nd hand might be pricey. Will PM him anyway to see, thanks for the tip off Stu

I remember your wine / dark red coloured chest from my visit to you, I'll take that off your hands if ever you want to sell for much much much cheapness Bloody lovely box, bet the price was lovely too.

Painted workshop and ramp are looking good

It was offensively priced, but I love it. May even buy another yet.

Thanks, looks much tidier all round now than when I mapped yours.
(Done much camping outside industrial estates lately? LOL)

James likes to keep it spick and span so its even cleaner than the above pictures now.

Have a look at Lista for roller cabs, static, work benches etc. all the F1 teams use them, top notch stuff, and a good discount can be had for group buys etc.

Just what you can see mate, 3dr and mk2 Mex. Nowt special.

If space is no problem then just go for the Sealey ones like I said, can be had dirt cheap. So much so I have kept mine as I don't think its even worth bothering to try and sell?
