Ive got a sony cybershot w35, takes superb pictures, great colour and sharpness, all the normal options you would expect like macro, scene modes, video, and the video is actually bloody good, and was impressed by the sound quality when playing back. I recorded my civic and played it back on my 5.1 pc speakers, the sub was shaking the desk

Think it was 130 odd 2 years ago when i bought it, but now its only 90-100.
Another important thing, whatever you get make sure its got a re-chargeable battery, otherwise you will be replacing AA batterys after every outing you have, and getting caught short and having no camera because your batterys died.

Just bought a Canon Digital Ixus 90 for the other half, or as it is branded due to the colour not being available in the UK (it is an Orange colour
) Canon Powershot SD1200.
£145 delivered, 10mp, face recognition, light weight, big viewing screen and a cracking little camera

I have the Fuji Finepix S1000fd, heres some pictures I took yesterday of a sunflower in my garden, I'm especially proud of this one with the bee just taking flight!

Macro...

Quick snap on Auto settings...

My S1000fd was £114.99 just before Christmas from Amazon.

I got the wife a Canon Ixus 85 from Comet the other week. Small in size, big viewing screen, face recognition 10mp etc. Cost £135, but I got it with 5 years cover for £132, it is now discontinued but you still might pick one up.
My mate who is the manager of a camera shop recommends kodak cameras, I've got one and it is fine for what i need!
Avoid Powershots (made by canon I think), the circuit boards in them always fail, he said he writes off 3 a week!

I have a Samsung NV-20, it's 12mp. does some great close up shots.
But tbh an NV10 is just as good, they can be had for under £100
They come with a Rechargable battery and are easy to use.

Avoid ones that takes AA batteries, as its so much easier just to plug the camera into a usb socket to charge its battery for a couple of hours than it would to faff around charging AA batteries seperately!
If you could up the budget ever so slightly i'd say go for a Panasonic Lumix TZ5, there are loads on ebay buy it now for 159.99 which includes a 4GB SDHC card. This camera has quite a wide angle lens with it and you can also record 720p HD video @ 30fps, which is handy for trackdays etc
The Panasonic Lumix TZ5 is my walkabout camera on holiday etc when i cant be arsed to carry my Nikon D90 DSLR and kit bag around.
more about the camera on the link below

the first list was for a refurb, but i found another ini swansea for 179 new and silver as the mrs wants silver.
i have a spare 2gig card, so not worried, plus it's onlty £20 for a 16gig

Looking at my shots and everyone elses there no difference really, and you can get mine for £100, and its silver AND its bloody tiny, same size as a mobile phone almost.
Your choice though chap

you can't beat the panasonic TZ range i reckon. i love mine for it's portability and the screen is superb. the thing i like least about it is the batteries in way. although they are small and last ages, you need the charger which is a pain when travelling. in that respect, i much prefer AA batteries as you can buy them worldwide.

One thing to bare in mind is if you want to record HD video with the TZ5 etc you will need a SDHC memory card, but theyre cheap as chips as you already said.
The 720p HD video is a nice feature too, especially when recording the kids growing up, your lass in bed, track day action etc... you can get some pretty good quality stills from it

Really easy to use, unfortunately it cant be charged from USB, unless you can buy a charger, although the battery does last ages.

i just watched that review,
it has some very cool features,
and i found a a bargain one too, so hopefully get it soon
talking about this camera, does anyone know if you can make the lens even more wide angle with some sort of fit on converter as i want to take some pictures of rooms in the house and you just don't get enough of the room in shot.

you do know that taking the pic in 16:9 format takes a wider pic?
