Evening all!
Am I going to be asking for trouble from the Police and VOSA, if me and a new friend(very good welder) make a new exhaust for my car, mild steel, piping straight off the turbo and all the way back to a old skool Cherry Bomb?

mine goes from the turbo to a backbox and straight out and a mate had a debaffled one. it sounded like a scooby on tickover and like a tvr on full chat.

i dont see a porblem. mine is quieter without the exhaust on. coming straight from the turbo it sounds quieter. it doesn't even pop and bang, although i've never driven it like that, just revved and revved it on my drive.

 

mine had a straight through pipe and 1 rear silencer. wasnt to loud but it was enough to set off car alarms with the deep rumble. id imagine a cherrybomb would be very loud.

 

On my cossie, straight out the back of a .63 T34 is 3" of freeflowing stainless into a backbox, that again is 3", exiting in a 4" outward roll - loudish at idle, sounds like a jet fighter when on boost

 

on my punto turbo i had no cat and no silencer, apart from a small rear box, which was loud enough to set off alarms, and i had no trouble

 

A good single silence system will be resonably quite on idle and part throttle and only really start to get offensivly loud at full tilt. Its normally the shitty restrictive sytems that get noticed by the police as they are loud when they really shouldn't be.
Cherry bomb definatly falls into the later.

and on motorways you will get done for speeding more,,,,,, loud cars give seem to be going faster

nobody ever complained at me doing 130 in my BMW yet if i do 100mph on the impreza the missus tells me to slow down

 

It might not be as bad as you think. I used to have an Integrale and I fitted an OMP Group A system to it which was turbo back and that had no silencers! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neMzwRLYwG8

It was very noisy but I never got pulled by the police
