The engine would still crank over though wouldn't it?

I presume the car is still in its warranty period?

Is it a manual ?.....

Common problem if it is, the dual mass flywheel starts to come to bits and fills the starter with metal filings and jams it up..... you can strip the starter and blow out the crap and it`s as good as new, happened to mine 3 times before i fitted a new flywheel and clutch...

Don`t go to the dealer though, my mate did and ended up with a bill for a new starter and clutch and flywheel of nearly Ł1300

I bought a clutch/flywheel kit for Ł350 and got a local garage to fit it for Ł150, then cleaned out the starter myself.... all sorted as good as new for Ł500
