Default Starting an engine up after 8 years, tips?

My brother moved away a few years back and left his car in a lockup, he's now since permanantly moved to Alaska and doesn't look like he'll be back. His car has sat untouched for a long time and i'd like to take it on as a project after i get my white 2WD shifted.
As far as I'm aware the engine hasn't been started for a long time, last time i went to view the car it tried to push it out the garage but the rear brakes were siezed on so we just left it.
When I got my saph engine built i took out the plugs and wound it over till the il light went out, i was wandering if i could do the same with this, or is a more delicate approach called for???

What engine is it?
I'd probably pour oil in the plug holes and turn it over by hand a bit then on the starter like you say ... the usual nonsense.
Clutch is probably stuck too but they're easy to crack off with brute force - much like brake drums.

Edit: Probably need fresh fuel too if it werent obvious. lol. Empty the tank, bung some fresh in and run the pump into a jar or something til you get fresh coming through.

WOW!
Be nice to see another on the road.
Being stored in a garage you have some tiny chance there might be some steel left in the shell. 1st rainfall may well dissolve it though - be careful!!

You probably need to do some stuff with the turbo too - make sure the blades arent stuck or whatever (I know nothing about these things)

Something I've done in similar situations is take the cam cover off and pour oil over the top end before turning by hand then with the starter.

I'll bet its still on the same mileage now mate..

If it was running alright when he put it away 8 yrs ago, then since it wont cost the earth I'd put it through a wee service before trying to crank it over.. new filters, fluids, plugs and leads.

Cheers,
Grant

Lol I am tempted, and my brothers pretty much resigned to the fact it'll be seized anyway so if i damage it, then he'll be none the wiser

I think the tax disc will give it away if i phone the AA, but I'm not even a member so thats totally out the window anyway.

Personally id just try turning it over by hand first to see if its seized. If its not then id do an do an oil change and maybe a cambelt if the one onit looks ropey and try it, do it with the coil/ht leads disconnected at first to build up some oil pressure though. Id defo change the cambelt/aux belt before trying to drive it!

New cambelt, backfill the oil pump, oil change, then turn over with the plugs out till the oil light goes out.
