Default Couple of pic's of my new E39 M5

Sold my M3 Evo a couple of weeks ago & been looking for a facelift M5. Eventually found one but it was a bit of a task, i covered 1300 miles in a week looking for one !

Its got impecable history all main dealer including original bill of sale & still has the dealer plates & stickers fitted 'Damon Hill BMW' cool !

Black leather with brushed aluminum inserts, sav nav etc. Came with M5 plate aswell. Its due an oil service & tyres soon plus never had mafs in its life as i have all reciepts & checked with my local dealer to see what its had under warranty. So a bit of expense coming up but i managed to knock it down from £10k to £9k. Its a Nov 2000 X plate facelift.

Its a great car & love the sound ! I'm thinking of putting the Hayward & scott back boxes on but want to hear another M5 with them fitted 1st.

Quality of pic's is a bit poor as i was in a rush & it was raining.

My old M3 evo

Can't believe what a bargain these cars are at the moment, although you might think its strange but i still prefer our Volvo V70R for long journeys as the seats are far better than the M5's. Plus i just went to homebase & saw they had an offer on trampolines but guess what, the box would'nt fit in the M5 ! Have to pick it up in the Volvo tomorrow !

Cheers Simon.

I didn't realise how hard it would be to find a really nice facelift model, looked at one pre facelift but they look quite dated with the older style lights & smaller sat nav screen. Managed to see 29.1 mpg on the obc on the motorway when bringing it home, not sure how accurate they are. I also didn't know until the other day that Silverstone blue is only available on the M5 not across the range like the other colours.

lovely car - just what I wouldnt mind - best colour.

I saw that one on pistonheads but too far to travel for me.

I'm still looking but it seems most of these are down souh - must be something to do with the economy 8-10 years ago.

hope you enjoy it.

I do like my Cossie's but won't have any more, if i get into modding again i will go Volvo 850 T5 saloon manual, one of the guys i went to the Ring with does 12sec quarters & saw 171mph on gps on the way back with more to go,Ring time of just under 8.30, thats running around 420 ish bhp with stronger rods amongst other things, probably about 8k to build complete car including buying, its a full on track car though.

Cossies are awesome.......just old and sometimes i get a craving to own another every so often and get close to go looking then my sensible head kicks in and says 'i will always love cossies but best to stand back and admire them now rather than own them'

Yes, its never let me down yet. The only thing i have i had to replace is the thermostat as it was running to cold. I've kept on top of general things like brake discs, wheel refurb, suspension refresh incl factory shocks, bits of new trim to tidy things up etc. Its been a very good buy.

Bought myself a E60 M5 with BMW AUC warranty, sound of the V10 at full chat is awesome !

Can't beat an E39 M5, had mine for 3-1/2 years and still love it! E60's are mint but the mpg and stupidly small tank totally ruin it for me.

Agree about the fuel consumption but i only did 1200 miles last year in the E39 so will probably do under 2k a year in the E60 so fuel not an issue for me, no way i could have a car like this as my normal transport/family car, its just a toy/2nd car.
Bit boring but we have had this for the past 4yrs as the family car , its my 3rd Volvo in a row, 850R , 2003 V70R & then to a diesel V70 D5 R-Design. This will be with us for at least another 3yrs, its a fantastic all round car & great in the snow with winters fitted. It will be replaced by yet another Volvo when the time comes.

Had it about a month but not taken any pic's yet ! Always pitch black when i get home & keep forgetting at the weekend. Its Silverstone blue 2 with black leather the full 5k leather option that covers dash top etc, also has the multi function seats with active side bolsters,tv, rear blind, logic 7 hi fi, HUD etc, will put some pics up soon.

I still really fancy an M5 and seriously thought about selling my Focus ST3 and buying one but all the ones in my price range have well over 100k miles and they're double the age of my Focus!

Not sure that selling my Focus that hasn't even hit 30k miles yet for something that's got well over 100k on it is a particularly bright idea!!

E60 or E39? Depends how much miles you do I suppose!
Simon now has me considering an E60 since my work circumstances have changed, I'm basically only in the UK for 1 week out of the month and don't have to commute when I am at home now, so I've probably done about 600 miles in the last 6 months in the M5, I could almost justify an E60 now.... But i've never really lusted after them like I did the E39

Mines now officially the car Ive owned the longest.
Got her at 75K miles and she is now on 150K. Love her - best daily Ive ever owned and cant see a valid reason to move her on other than for the new M5 which I cant afford.

Glad to hear it mate! I'm in the same predicament really, I don't want to get rid but she's at 130k now so I'm just thinking it may be sensible to get rid, ironically the only thing I want is another lower mileage one, but I won't get one the same
I should probably just keep it and stop panicking, think my diff is fucked though, had play in it for ages and it has lots of play when you're pulling away or slowing down, like it's taking up the slack in the prop when you lift the clutch at the biting point.

Its a real testimony to the car. I have covered over 75K miles in this now and it's never missed a beat and I really fancy the new F11 but can't justify the £86k finance for one.

The thing with the M5 is, for the cost of them now, what the hell would you replace it with? Seats 5 very comfortably, big boot, uber safe, uber reliable, handles well with a few tweaks, every toy known to man from heated seats to dual zone climate control as standard, Potters along in 6th at 20mph and can stay in that gear to over 190mph... It's a hard act to follow.

My previous cars all had easy upgrade paths, the cosies, the evos, the skyline, all were easily bettered by other cars in some way... But I don't feel that way about the M5 except in the fuel economy stakes and the fact she is piling on the miles.

Just had to fit a pair of headlights mind, the adjusters were broken on mine so you couldnt see a toss on totally unlit roads, and I do like hooning round the lakes at 5am on my photography trips chasing sunrise locations. So while Im at it, its time to try the new Osram Nightbreaker Ultimates. Supposed to be 70% brighter and 40M longer beam. We will see, fitting them this afternoon.
