I've got a 200SX coming in soon, the guy popped in at the weekend. He bought a 'Genuine Garrett' turbo off Ebay, fitted it that morning, but it had begun making lots of noises and no boost. I booked it in for us to look at it.

He called this morning to say that the turbo had properly shit itself. It had been fitted for 2 days.

I told him that I have my fingers crossed for him that the failed turbo hasn't passed through the engine and wrecked that.

Moral is, get it done properly IMO.

My advice is to not buy an overhaul kit atall. Get it done properly by a turbo specialist. At least you have someone experienced doing it and someone to shout at if it goes wrong.

normally i find if something sounds to good to be true then it probably is. if these bits are not top quality then you could end up spending more than you would have doing the job properly in the first place. in other words trying to save money can often cost you more..
