Default Anyone else get grief about their car?

As above.

I was at my mates little boy's birthday party today and, as you do, got chatting to people. Normally when I start chatting to people that know me, the subject turns to cars at some point. I was talking to my mate's dad and his gf's dad when they started saying I was stupid for spending and doing what I do on my cossie, it's a piece of shit, what's broken on it recently, you've got to sell it, buy a house, start a family etc......

My cossie is the only thing I have ever wanted since I was a kid and is, currently, the only thing that makes me happy. I said this and was told I need to grow up and forget about cars as it won't make me money. WTF!!!!

I will never sell my car as my dad loved it and virtually pleaded with me not sell it and (pathetic as it may seem) now he's gone, feel it would be wrong to get rid of it. He was happier than I was when I got it!! LOL! Again though, I'm
stupid.

A lot of other people have said the same things to me.

I'm just getting a bit pissed off with people taking the piss out of me
and telling me what I should and shouldn't do!

I'm in a position where I can afford it, have no ties, no family, no missus etc, so is so wrong for me to have something that makes me happy??

Sorry for going on!! Just gets my back up!!

Anyone else get this aswell?

na mate i have full respect for you keeping the car on your dads word and i'd do the same and tell them if they have nothing better to say then mind there own but might not of gone down well at the bday patrty

i got it over my little mk5 but i have no shame or care about other people so it never got to me, i loved my little car and that was it, some people just don't grasp our love for cars being more than something that just get's us from A 2 B, and that it's actually more like a hobby and a second love i'd never by a car just cos it's there for the right price it will always have to be something i would enjoy to drive, bet most of us on here have the same logic.

WTF indeed.

Granted it's nice to make a song on a car, but unless you specifically set out to do that, you most likely wont.

But since when did the world start revolving around money? How much you earn/what you got/what car you drive/how many bedrooms you got/do you buy starbucks/wear cool brand clothes etc etc. I could go on. The obsession with material stuff pisses me right off.

As for the Jip, yeah I get it. Don't give two flying fucks!

last week my cos was being photographed outside a derelict building for a magazine feature, this old guy pulled up in his forklift, switched it off and had a good long stare at the car,the bonnet was up and it was sitting there surrounded by tripods and a guy taking photos.he said 'whats going on?'.a photoshoot i said.he replied'what,an old sierra?'.i turned to the photographer and we both said 'some folk just dont get it'.he fired his truck up and drove off,i hate how the conversation always turns to cars when you speak to folk who really arent interested in them because they tell you about the 2nd hand vectra they have just bought or how some guy at their work has an impreza that does 180mph.in life there are a few different types of folk who do things i cant possibly begin to understand.
1,avid football fans who will fight with the opponent team and follow their team where ever they go.
2,the folk who spend every night possible in the pub speaking to the same folk about the same rubbish.
3,golfers,pink trousers and a yellow t shirt.enough said!
4,folk who have no life except their t.v and who sit in every night watching it.thats a waste of a life.
do what makes you happy and fuck everybody else as long as its not affecting them,i make sure my bills are paid and theres food in the house for us before the car gets anything spent on it.it doesnt stop her complaining but i bring up the fact i dont smoke or go to the pub every night like some folk and that ends that.your cossie is probably 18 years old at least, ask them if the car they are driving will be worth 5k in 18 years.

I'm glad I'm not the only one!! LOL!

I know that my mates parents mean well and are only wanting me to do well for myself and see me happy but they don't see that my car is my hobby.

Everyone has to have a hobby!!

As above don't worry, keep your car, it's your money to do with as you please, let them buy a new piece of jap crap and pay the depreciation.
It won't make you money, I'd rather be skint and happy with a cossie than rich without one, life isn't all about money, they sound very vain as most are these days.
I see it on my estate someone gets new car, within weeks the rest of the herd have too, my lads mates dads the same, has anew car every year normally a focus/mondy but does less than 50 miles a week as he can't afford the fuel, his sons 13/17 aren't even allowed on HIS ps3, don't have a compy, he leaves them with relatives when he and wifey go abroad on hols.

Yeah because new cars NEVER break, and can be sold for the same amount they paid for it 10 years later

You can grow up, get a house AND have a classic/performance car too

I get this all the time from my friends, family. Telling me to get a newer car, which I could easily. They can not understand why I buy rs turbo, cosworths, Spend lots buying them. Only for more problems to come and more spending.
I just get on with it I made the sacriface knowing there old performance that will need money spent.
I like spending spending my hard earned on my cars and seeing the end product. I like RS cars there my hobby.

some people just don't get it! is your passion and hobby, you earn your cash to spend as you like! everyone is entitled to their opinion, but they have no right to start knocking you, i get it all the time, why don't you just buy a evo, why don't you just buy a modern car, etc! i still get the same buzz out of any rs when i see one the road, and my cossie still gives me the same thrill it did when i first bought it!! iam pretty sure a modern car does not give you that, and iam quite sure a seat leon etc, will not give the same buzz 20 years on!!

Don't worry about the piss taking, some people are right tossers who'll find anything to have a dig about, regardless of what it is.
The trouble with this country is that people love putting each other down, the trick is to never take anything personally.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one that thinks the same way! LOL!

My mates brother in law said to sell everything and get a nice, economical, diesel estate! I said I wouldn't mind one tbh. 'Now you're seeing sense!!' he said. I then replied 'yeah that way, I wouldn't have to put a tow bar on the cossie to tow my trailer and track car when I get it!! Good idea!!!'

He just rolled his eyes, grunted and walked away!! LOL!

Usually the same people that have let the fun in their life get trampled out of them by kids and mortgages and a nagging misses.

You could be spunking all your cash on coke and booze, i have mates who think I am mad in the past for having stuff like S1 turbo's etc, yet they don't drive and never have any money as they are too busy being shite faced 4 days a week and the other four spent hanging.

Then there are the others with 5 kids, working all hours and every penny goes on food shopping, totally hen pecked.

A neighbour of mine HATES the fact we have a fiesta ST sat on the drive and it gets used once a week, it's the misses car, she likes nice cars, and has the cash to have it. But he constantly harks on - "that's ruining that car not getting used" "what a waste" "why not buy a cheap car"

Whilst in the same breath rants on about how he used to own a Mondeo ST24 and how he loved it but had to sell it so they could get a family car.

I don't have kids yet, me and the misses earn good cash and save well, don't really go out on the town so why shouldn't we have things we want?

Depends how old you are, if your 40 and still living at home and your life is spending all your cash on a cossie then yes they have a point. It is also a problem when people spend thousands of pounds on an old car then cant afford the necesetys in life like kids clothes etc.

If its a hobby you can afford then its fair does but if its ruling your life then they might have a point

my old man is the same, so's the wife, even my cousin says the same thing, "if you want a faster car, buy a faster car" without realising that i'd bought a fast car that i then set about making faster

and, for osme reason, old folks always tend to lust after a 5.3 jag V12 as if it's the best thing in the world, ever

a cossie would seem to have jap levels of reliabiltiy compared to one of them

Why would I need a more exciting life? I do have other things that I do.

What do you define as exciting? Getting pissed up every night and totally wasting my money? I don't go out into town anymore as I always end with some sort of trouble.

At the end of the day this thread was about people giving me hassle about my hobby not whether my life is exciting or not.

Not at all.

You just said that your car was the only thing that made you happy?

Don't you have a woman, or other hobbies or interests that you enjoy?

If not, it's no wonder people give you hassle!

my mrs doesnt get it either, had a few chats where its been kinda "you will grow up one day and stop spending time and money on old cars" to whichthe reply was ermm, no!

some people get into cars to fit with a crown when theyre young and then give it up. Some people are just into cars and always will be!

Yeah I get people acting all "concerned" when I tell them it's being reshelled, or having an engine rebuild, etc. all the other things that Cossies need and cost ŁŁŁŁŁ - they say things about throwing good money after bad, maybe I had better get rid of it and buy something newer, get told by my boss I should get something newer and more reliable.

Whatever. It's a car that holds it's value, is fast and practical, easy to work on. I don't want anything else. Cossies are top

Don't you have a woman, or other hobbies or interests that you enjoy?

If not, it's no wonder people give you hassle!
It's the only thing that is currently making me happy due to me working long and unsociable hours and when I have my days off, all my mates are at work so all I have to do is work on or drive my cossie.

I don't have a mrs because everytime I get involved with someone, I just end up feeling unhappy.

Like I said I work shit hours so never really get the chance to see my mates and do other stuff.

As soon as I manage to get myself a job with more regular hours, hopefully I will have more time to myself to do more 'exciting' stuff.

Until then the cossie will have to do!!

I get the same mate, when all the family get together they all comment on it, everytime. Luckily for me my mum dad, sisters and girlfriend know its what i like and enjoy and do stick up for me, its my money and i will spend it on what i like.

yeah same here loads of my mates give me stick for spending so much money on a fiesta and eother because its a ford and they love their jap crap 180's and GTST skylines.... Wooo hoooo lik they aint common as a case of the clap in a brothel these days!

Mk3 fiesta's are getting more and more rare and will only get rarer as they all rot through neglect, granted its a 1.1 shell but its how i want it and ive had it nearly 10 years now and am still spending money on it as i will never get rid of it of my own accord, had too much fun and memories and also agro in / from it to get rid of it!

some people just dont have a clue about what makes people like cars, yes i like nice things as well but am happier spending my extra cash on cars and tools. Same as some women buying loads of shoes/ handbags or people buying loads of expensive clothes.
