Default Difference between a 4x4 downpipe and 2wd downpipe?

Fitted my new mongoose exhaust and the downpipe is a very tight fit? Its basically resting on the gearbox when bolted to the turbo!

It seems like the pipe should have been extended an inch further down to give proper clearance... It there any chance i've been sent a 2wd downpipe by mistake? Is this the difference between the two?

So if i had a 2wd one, i'd not be getting the issues i am?

I thought mongoose were supposed to be a good fit - guess i was wrong

Wonder if i'm ever going to get anything for my car that just fucking works?

they are fairly tight to the box to avoid them hitting the floor, push it over towards the inner wing when bolting it up to the turbo

Just realised something, could it be the 6degree beam causing it? You have to bend the rear hangers about so they miss the rose joined parts.

nah its more likely the wrong pipe, the downpipe will sit where it is regardless as it's bolted to the turbo solid.

hang about...... the 2wd and 4x4 down pipe are totally different they are not interchangable with about cuting and welding...

2wd runs down the drivers side of the gearbox well

4x4 down pipe goes down then bends under the gearbox then goes down the passenger side of the gearbox well, to avoid the front prop on the 4x4 gearbox.

if your car is a 4x4 i'm taking a guess that your car may have a 2wd exhaust manifold....

you can make a 4x4 front pipe fit a 2wd manifold by adding an inch into the down part of the pipe,

so if paul is running a 2wd manifold he will need to mod the pipe, as it will be too short

dom, right enough...I knew there was a huge difference but couldnt remember! lol

an escos with a 2wd manifold I've came across (not literally) had another flange pushed into the original downpipe flange to extend it, if that makes any sense?

I've a T35 and a 4x4 manifold. The downpipe is the same shape as my old exhaust, comes down, bends under the gearbox, runs parallel to the ARB then bends towards the back of the car.

Its very close to the underside of the gearbox and is actually touching the chassis leg at the mo.

Going by what you guys are saying it looks like its just poorly made? Either that or the fact its hanging low at the back due to the 6 degree beam is causing my hassle?

Just to complicate things, i'm going to be fitting a 2wd manifold in the near future Any pics of where i need to get a section added in?

to be honest paul you would be better to measure it when you have the manifold fitted, ive taken advice off here for measurents and they are always wrong!!! eg how much to shorten my prop!! its not 60mm!!!!

ps i have read before that with the 6degree beam the exhaust does need modifing!! near the back!

Sorry to pop up again and sound like Mr know it all I fitted one of those rear beams on an escos and the hangers were in the way, had to bend them about so they would clear, other than that iirc it fitted ok, but could be different on a 2wd?

Mines a 4x4

Its the same though, the hangers need bent toward the front of the car to clear the rose joints in the beam. Problem is i didn't actually fit the exhaust, a mechanic did, so while its on, its not on exactly how i'd like. The centre box is far too low for one thing, so i need to get the car up on a ramp and rebend the hangers so the whole exhust sits closer to the bodywork.

Jtech has kindly offered to mod my downpie for me, so hopefully that'll sort any rubbing issues when i switch to a 2wd manifold!
