why is the RS1600i one so popular over the S1 or S2 equivilent?

I'm toying with the idea of fitting one so will need to get an S1 gearbox casing but since i haven't got a gearbox yet this isn't a major hassle.

someone sell me on the idea...

 

The RS1600i is the best Escort set up from what I can gather. The S2 set up is pretty poor in comparison to the RSi and S1 set ups as they were designed for rally use where as the S2 wasn't. The main advantage of the RSi and S1 set ups is that they offer adjustment to the caster. The RSi is slighty better than the S1 set up as the mounting on the RSi is a one peice aluminium unit where as the S1 uses a heavy 3 peice cast iron mount.
The RSi also uses a different style joint to the S1 where the tie bar arm mounts the the mounting plate which I was told was stronger and less prone to dust and dirt.

if i can find an S1 gearbox casing and RSi ARB i'll get them fitted, wonder what's best between an S1 and S2 box/LSD

 

i am fitting rs1600i crossmember with mef front struts and mef adjustable tca'sthey were meant to be with me thursdayshould make a good differance along with the mef rear agear also

 

ive got an rs16i roll bar and adjustable tca's and gaz coilovers all round poly bushes rear roll bar aswell

shame im still along way off driving the thing but it all looks nice

ive got 2 rs16i roll bars and they are not the same funny that one

 

A S1 LSD has 6 bolts and a S2 has 8 IIRC making the S2 a slighty better unit. My gearbox is also up for sale

 

can't imagine it will be too hard to build up an S1 gearbox casing with S2 LSD and internals
