Default focus rs cutting out when revs drop

Hi all thought would mention this on here as you guys may have had the problem on your car at some point.

i have a 2003 focus rs which has the below items, the problem i have is when the revs are coming down when you start coasting to a junction tight bend sometimes the revs drop too low and stall, the car has been into a ford dealer workshop today who have said there is a pcm update for driveability and this maycure this. however because the car has been remaped by graham goode i thought i would see what they say before i have this pcm update carried out. i was then told by them not to get the ford dealer to carry out the update as they think the problem is down to the dump valve. So tonite i have shut off the dump valve and tested but every so often the vehicle still stalls or goes to stall if you dont rev the car. Any ideas would be appreciated. list of modifications below.

# Engine Mapped for 300 BHP with Power Adjuster
# GGR Cold Flow Air Induction System
# GGR Stainless Racing Exhaust with No Centre Box (Car sold with original CAT)
# GGR Uprated and Lowered Spring Kit
# Quaife Uprated ATB
# Bailey DV24 Piston Dump Valve
# Quick Shift Gear Lever
# Uprated Turbo

thanks

this may sound a daft question but, what are the revs getting to to actually cut out?

Exhaust Gas recirculating valve dirty/clogged (if RS have them)

or maybe Idle Air control valve dirty, needs cleaning with carb. cleaner.

When you say you 'shut the dumpvalve off ' do you mean you removed it?? If you did what dump valve did you put in its place?

The DV24 is a atmos dump valve and this in its own can cause stalling. The best thing you could is put the original dump valve (recirc dump valve) back on and the remove the battery for 15mins. After that start the engine with the AC and Headlights on for 10 mins and then go for a long run including around town and open road. This will reset the ecu and it will start learning again.

The RS is meant to run with a recirculating dump valve and quite a few have had a lot of problems with Atmos dump valves.

Well, the Bailey DV24 should not even be fitted to the FRS i'm afraid as it is a single piston design dv - Bailey's own website states that if you do want to run an atmos dv on the FRS then you need to get a twin piston one i.e the DV26 or DV36

In any case the fact you have an atmos dv fitted is going to be your problem - loads of people on the RSOC have at some stage fitted an atmos dv, myself included before i knew better 3 years ago, and then posted up on the forum asking why the car is cutting out when braking or changing gear - basically dv leaks air, which messes up the fuelling & airflow passing the maf causing the car to stall

The FRS was designed by Ford to run a recirculating dv - fit one & problems should be sorted - in uprated terms the Bailey DV30 or Forge007P are the uprated recirc dv options available

As Alex has said it is the DV24 that is causing it!

Car needs a DV26 (I had one and it still stalled), replace the standard bosch with a DV30 or Forge 007!

hey...have you upgraded from your standard recirc dump valve to an atmospheric blow off valve. if you have this will be causing the problem as it allows to much petrol thro..

sorry guys made a slight mistake removed the dump valve and it is a dv26 on the car not a dv 24. as a matter of testing i have removed the dump valve and we have replaced it with a friends baileys dump valve later model than mine, still has same problem allthough seems to happen less often, may just be one of those things however i believe to clean the idle control valve on throttle body you need to remove the starter motor? anyone know if that is correct? thanks again

My RS had a DV26 fitted when i first bought and mine used to cut out/overfuel all the time. As soon as i switched it back for the standard re-circ. Problem solved

And you will get better mpg!

Crankcase breather pipe is my guess, or the inlet has blown a hole in the blanking plug on the spare port... or both of the above!
