Not a surprise

You can see the focus pulling out on any straight it gets but the renault is much lighter and a good handling car so will catch up on braking and cornering against the heavier car on such a tight circuit

Out on the open road i'd expect the FRS to show it a cleanish pair of heels

We'll see once the ring times come out as Ford are expecting to beat the R26R Megane sometime soon, I doubt the Clio will too?

1. Unfair comparison due to size and weight difference...
2. Clio has front suspension using the same technologhy as 'Revo knuckle' so

thankyou.....

Lack of torque, peaky narrow power band, sh*te build quality and low future residials...

its 26k for the basic mate . . with no luxury pack (Ł1500) leather seats (Ł500) metallic paintwork. (Ł400-Ł600 dependant on colour) bluetooth & usb (Ł200) plus a few others so it adds up. if your going to get one ur going to want at least some of these things??

All im saying is for that amount of money it should be nailing that clio around their. . am i wrong?

How do all those things make it faster though, The clio is a 'cup' which is the lightened version of the clio, ford could do the same with the focus!

Just wait for the Official Ford Power Upgrade for the RS and then its Bye Bye Clio!!! I have the 182 and its a great car but they are very fragile. Warning lights will show after a good kicking. And there is no way in hell you'll survive if you have a accident in it lol

hardly conclusive was it? do 20 more laps then see how far it is behind.

i'm pretty sure there are plenty of other cars which costs less and have similar power to the clio could keep up as well for a few laps, that test was pointless.

At the end the guy even said "its not as quick as the focus RS if you are really going for it in the Focus RS"
that to me implies the focus rs driver wasnt going for it as much as the clio driver, plus the clio driver could be a 10x better driver than the focus.

Surprisingly i have been in my mates 301bhp Ktec Turbo 182 and i wasn't impressed it struggled to use the power even after having a diff fitted. It still wouldn't keep up the RS and thats for Damn Sure! The guy who drove my 182 was his mate and my car was still up the arse of the KTec. It just can't put the power down.

Just to annoy people further th focus rs got crushed around the ring by r26r.

Howevr its still not really a fair comparison really unless ford did an rsr that was stripped out and on slicks etc.

Still not greatthough hey

The focus driver was a professional test driver at milbrook, the clio driver was Steve suttcliffe from autocar, the focus is on three fucking wheels, yes he sdmitted he was really pushing the clio but you can see its all over the focus under breaking!

The test is not pointless, it proves that cars need to be agile and light to be fun and perform well, having 300hp is no good when your a lardy ass, and a car HALF the price can harrass you like that!

With the new RS you are buying the badge, You could go faster for 30k But its an icon and i would still have one if i had the money and you can bet it wont depreciate in value much over the years.

I'm presuming you've never driven round Millbrook! It's incredibly tight and twisty with off camber bends, blind crests and was designed to feature some of the worst types of corners you'll ever encounter. As a result it's always going to favour the smaller, lighter, more nimble car. Take both cars on a race track, or a good bit of road and the Clio would get eaten alive.

the test is pointless

if you have a look on you tube (an autocar vid) there is also a test between the new skyline and the Focus through some roads in Yorkshire; through the bends the skyline couldnt lose the focus

a fair test would be to do 20 laps using the same driver, same conditions and look at the lap times

this "test" isnt a test!

Bloody hell anyone would think I just pulled my nob out of one of your mums!

Im not saying the focus isnt a good car, I personally dont think at 30 grand its value for money however it will have good residuals.

what a belting little car the clio is for 15 grand though.

Being an enthusiast doesnt mean you have to be blinkered as to what great cars are around from other manufacturers!

Ill put the times up when I get to work, Car magazine have just tested the FRS vs the R26R and the new golf.

If you read Steve Sutcliffe's column in Autocar ( driving the Clio in the clip ) it gives some further insight - I think it would have been good to see the guy in the Focus "at work". Steve seemed to be trying pretty hard from the clip ( and what he wrote in his column )

Personally I'd say he is a faster driver than Matt Prior ( in the Focus ) as well given that he's done well in F1 cars and TVR Tuscans.
As also said, it might be a bit easier to chase a car than lead on a tight circuit like that.
